I could definitely get behind a campaign to disallow radical religious extremists from owning guns. And ban assault type weapons for everybody else. Assault weapons are designed for war. WTF do people need an assault weapon for?

Religion is the problem. Religion is the motive.
Sometimes it’s Christianity. Sometimes it’s Islam. But in the vast majority of terrorist incidents. It’s religion. One group’s invisible god always has a bigger dick than some other group’s invisible god.
It is my belief that Cruz, Carson, Trump, Fiorina and the other occupants of the Republican Clown Car are driven by a condition that I have named Radical Intellectual Midgetry. It’s a pretty scary thing. The ability to ignore the facts, regardless of how often and how clearly they are explained, is one of the main features.
Alright, let me state right at the outset that I absolutely cannot stand Cruz. Odious person.
But, I’ll give the Devil his due and say that there’s a reasonable likelihood that radical Islamist ideology will have played at least some role. No, that said, then what? How do we stop young fools like this couple from believing this nonsense and acting on it? Cruz and Trump and the rest will say-Bomb the Hell out of ISIS. OK, but radical Islamist ideology didn’t begin with ISIS and won’t end with them. Tom Friedman would say, we must have economic opportunity. Of course, but this couple had that. The guy had a college degree from a Cal State school and a decent job with a career ahead of him. So did Mohamed Atta. So that isn’t it entirely either.
How do we change minds? I don’t know, to be honest. The one thing I can be confident of is that a guy like Cruz who has never changed his mind and never compromised on anything is hardly going to be the one to solve the problem of young people accepting ideologies that leave no room for doubt and compromise.
