Discussion: Ted Cruz Just Told Us All We Need To Know About The GOP And Muslims

I’m actually happy that the only language Republicans can reliably speak anymore is “severe right wing nut job-ese”. Only the loony, fringe base voters can hear it, and it will doom their hapless nominee in November next year.

After Amanda’s take down of my hero Jerry Seinfeld a few weeks ago, I gotta say I am really pleased to report that she is not the far left KOS-like nut job I had branded her as but rather a skilled writer with keen legal-like instincts who is able to delve into the swarmey morass of politics and surface with succinct and plausible narrative. What I like most is that I did not “get it” until Amanda laid it out nice and simple for me…Obama is the Muslim in Ben and Ted’s hypothetical scenario.

The GOP isn’t a political party at all. It’s a religious hate group!

5 out of 6 losses in The Only Election That Counts will do this to a Party, especially the most unhinged elements within it. Without a prayer of turning this thing around, the Leaders of The Stupid Party are capitulating and now hauling everything they can to the windows so that Cruz, et al can hurl shit at everyone who will not be voting for them for about the next, oh 100,000 years.

Obviously Obama is a sharia-law-believing Muslim, which is why he’s imposing gay marriage on our Christian country.

Right on. But if you are blessed with a malicious character, and you are really stupid, too, then you are on everyone’s shortlist to be the next Republican nominee to lose to the next Democratic President. And then you will be the next host of your own Saturday evening show on Fox News.

Is President Obama a Muslim?

Let me begin by stating that it really doesn’t matter. Our Constitution guarantees your religious beliefs cannot be held against you for government work. That said, some people with anti-American views are obsessed with the question. So, here I try to sort it out.

Both Obama’s biological and step fathers were born Muslim. In some countries, your birth certificate stamps the religion of your father. This is not totally unreasonable. Granted, you probably were not contemplating religious doctrine on the first day, but most people do end up practicing the religion of their parents. Of course, there are exceptions. Obama’s half sister, Maya Kasandra Soetoro-Ng, who was raised by a Muslim and an atheist, now practices Buddhism.

While Obama’s father and step father were technically born Muslims, it doesn’t appear they were devout practitioners of the faith. Neither converted Obama’s mother. In fact, his biological father became and atheist. It does not appear that either father regularly attended services, if at all. Neither knelt on a prayer rug five times a day.

That isn’t all that different from many of my Jewish and Christian friends. They accept their family’s religious trademark but don’t really practice their religion. Jewish friends might occasionally light a candle on a holy day but they stay out after sundown on Friday nights and occasionally eat pork. My Christian friends might have been married or even baptized in a church and attend Christmas services with their parents, but that is about it. When scheduled by their employer, they work on the Sabbath. Many swear and take the Lord’s name in vain.

Barack spent little time with either father. Shortly after his birth, Obama Sr. left. Barack didn’t see his father until he was 10, when Obama Sr. returned to Honolulu for a month visit. That was the only time he ever saw him. Barack lived with his mother and step-father for a year in Honolulu when he was 4. Then he lived with them in Indonesia for another 3 years from age 6 ½ to 9 ½. While in Indonesia, a largely Muslim nation, Barrack attended a Catholic school.

Barack spent more time with his mother and her parents. Sometimes it was with them individually and sometimes they lived as a three generation family. Barack’s mother was an atheist; his maternal grandmother, Madelyn, was raised in a strict Methodist household. As an adult she and her husband, Stanley, attended Unitarian Universalist churches. Obama and his half sister held her memorial in a UU church.

During his college years, Obama was like so many others, he ignored religion. It wasn’t until his days as a community organizer in Chicago that he joined a church. For 20 years, President Obama attended Reverend Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ. Wright preached black liberation theology that focused on liberating people of color from political and economic oppression. This ideology is similar to the popular South American Catholic liberation theology endorsed by the current Pope Francis.

Wright claims he preached liberation theology because he was worried about the inroads Islam was making in urban Black communities. He saw it as an antidote to the teachings of Muslims like Louis Farrakhan and Malcolm X. So, President Obama was married in and a 20-year member of a church founded on a Christian theology designed to oppose Islam.

President Obama is no longer a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He and his family rarely attend church as secret service protection creates problems for regular church members. But he does start everyday with a devotional by Joshua DuBois, who ran the White House faith-based office until 2013. And those closest to him frequently comment about his spirituality.

Legislatively, the first act President Obama’s signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. Equal rights for women won’t be found in the Sharia law play book. Nor was his support for homosexual rights when he ended Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and supported the right of gay/lesbians to marry.

Neither do the Obamas practice Sharia law on a personal level. When First Lady Michelle Obama accompanies her husband on trips to Muslim nations, she doesn’t wear a head scarf. The Obamas drink beer and wine. They even eat pork.

President Obama denies he is or has ever been a Muslim. If our President is a secret Muslim, he isn’t a very good one. But it doesn’t matter either way. The important thing is that he continues the good work he has been doing for the past six plus years.

. . . what are the consequences been in the last six and a half years of the Obama presidency . . .

Alternatively, we could ask what have been the consequences of having a Republican-dominated Congress for the last five years.

It’s a point the Ds should be trying to put out there for the down-ticket races.

Whether Hillary or Bernie gets elected won’t make much difference if all either of them can do is veto these slapdicks.

Media fact based, never, I say never… what do you think the the media gives a flying fuck…never.

Strategy… another strategy that failed what 7 years ago, retried 3 years ago and fail… so let’s try again as the 3rd time is the charm… OH, he’s not running, darn.

Dumb fuck…

The MSM is the most important facet of the Oligarch hegemony. It creates social reality in a large, heterogeneous, “new” society like ours

Each Oligarch enabler has a function…here are some…

The hillbillies are the storm troops
The G.O.P. are the action arm
The Corporations are the fellow associates
The MSM itself sells THEIR product (“news”) in the same manner Jim Beam sells liquor–both make you
inebriated

Their target:

Kids
Independents
Distracteds
Disillusioned People (who get more so by watching)

Once again, Marcotte shows she is not always a writer you can trust. I have yet to see the quote where Carson [usually quite a jerk, I will allow] actually says a Muslim should not be allowed to be president. He says he would not support a Muslim for president and that it would be bad for America to have a Muslim president. Not the same thing at all as saying you would forbid a Muslim from being president. In fact, Carson even said he would not object to a cultural Muslim as president if they swore to put the Constitution ahead of their religion - you know, sort of what JFK did in 1960. If you really think a devout Muslim as president is fine, then you, to be consistent, probably think there is nothing wrong with having a president who advocates that women and non-Muslims should be second class citizens, and that those who leave Islam, or even just criticize it, should be put to death.

“The party’s leaders have been running around screaming with their hair on fire for almost 8 years and they haven’t calmed down yet.”

That is a lot of greenhouse gases let into the atmosphere with the benefit of them getting anywhere.

Obama is a totally shitty Muslim.

I know, right? And thanks to record stock highs and private sector job growth, worst socialist ever, too. How do we get refunds for our combined small dollar campaign contributions?

Carson’s original quote:

“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I
absolutely would not agree with that,” the retired neurosurgeon and
Republican presidential candidate said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

He didn’t specify devout until later, when he clumsily walked it back. It’s true that he didn’t say that the constitution should be changed to disallow Muslims, and it’s also true that many voters take their own religious views into account, but the problem is that he was clearly conflating all Muslim believers into a single class of people who can’t put their country above their religion.

And the attempt to walk it back by saying he wouldn’t support an overly religious Christian is pretty rich coming from a guy who has been overtly religious on the campaign trail.

Yup. When the head of the NC state senate was asked why we needed voter ID since even though there have been almost no cases of in person voter fraud, he said that’s what proved fraud had been so successful.
