“African slavery, as it exists in the United States, is a moral, a social, and a political blessing.”
- Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States
An organization that celebrates racism is racist.
A Confederate group could organize around the truth that their ancestors were royally screwed by the 1% of their day: the narcissistic, rich, landed, aristocratic traitors who owned all the land and slaves. They could highlight the tragedy of untold, penniless, enlisted men dying needlessly, in a futile war for a hopeless cause in which they had no direct stake. They could compare the inflation-adjusted expenses of slave ownership with today’s minimum wage, which clearly doesn’t even cover a worker’s food, clothing, shelter and medical care.
If a Confederate group stood for any of those things, and also burned their ugly traitor flag as the embarrassment that it should be, I wouldn’t care whether they were racist or not.
