On that subject; just back after 2 months in the US and must have seen the Rob Lowe commercials 5 times a bloody day (and I didn’t watch that much TV - there isn’t that much on) and the alternative characters always seemed to me to have more interesting lives than normal Rob?

The best part of this story is that, after killing one person and shooting more, the cops tased him and arrested him. I wonder how they would have reacted if he were, say, an unarmed black teen?
I can’t make sense of these state legislatures like AZ that in their personal quest for a 100% rating from the NRA (as a litmus test for reelection) they refuse to acknowledge the potential consequences of their votes. These senseless killings today are an ugly reminder but the real issue for me is overall quality of everyday life. It is being diminished. And no, even when everyone is carrying, no one will be safer. It’s become a perversity.
Yes … very nasty news. This fellow’s rampage with a gun was about a mile from my son’s home in Mesa. Just now figured that out using Google Earth. I think my state’s legislature is bonkers for allowing open carry of guns into various places they should not go. For some reason my legislature thinks AZ is still the wild west where everybody should be armed to the teeth and shoot each other on the flimsyest of reasons. It will take a horrible tragedy for them to see reason. I wish they could see reason before that happens but they won’t.

I agree Darcy. There’s no reason to pack a hogleg everywhere one goes. It’s asking for tragedy. Carry your rifle to an approved shooting range or an approved place to hunt safely… otherwise leave 'em at home securely locked up. There’s no reason to carry a gun in every day life … unless you are a cop or military. AZ’s open carry in bars law is the prime reason I never enter a bar anymore. There have been several attempts by the AZ legislature to allow guns in schools … class rooms to be specific. The willful stupidity boggles the mind.
Plenty of horrible tragedies already in Arizona. Gabby Giffords should have been tragedy enough to curtail the gun fellators. Nothing will happen until one or more of the legislators (R) themselves are gunned down in session. Even then, guns would only be banned from the state house.

As for guns in America, the outside world remains baffled.
Two weeks after Gabby was shot the AZ Leg. named the Colt .45 “peacemaker” the state pistol. This is the weapon made famous in a zillion westerns. Since her shooting there have been repeated attempts to remove any sane gun law. We allow guns in bars. There are no permits for concealed carry. Repeated attempts to allow guns in schools and other public buildings were vetoed by Jan Brewer. We suspect our new governor will allow such stupidity.
Recently a member was showing her laser aimed pink pistol to a reporter when she discharged it by mistake (that’s what she said). The round went thru a bookcase, a wall and into the next office. Luckily nobody was injured. Since then she has declined to come to work so armed.
AZ is run by knuckle dragging mouth breathers. I love my state but not its government.
