The panel, appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to review the disaster,
This was the task force that Gov. Snyder asked to be put together. Is it any wonder then that the buck stops slightly below his office and onto the EFM, MDEQ, and all the other actors he personally put in place to help create this disaster for the residents of Flint? Only one person is left out of this “withering report” of assigning direct blame…and that is the Governor himself. If anyone is surprised by this, they haven’t been paying attention.
What an absolutely incompetent governor.
Countdown to Snyder pulling a Palin: “This report completely exonerates me and my staff from all responsibility…”
Snyder is a “hose bag.”
Sounds more like Krispy Kreme.
"a story of government failure, intransigence, unpreparedness, delay, inaction, and environmental injustice."
In short, a story of Republican governance. The first step to healing America is to get everyone who thinks the government is the problem out of the government.
This report is another data point responding to this question:
“What happens when you elect people whose fundamental belief is that government is ineffective and bound to fail at anything it attempts?”
The answer is obvious: you have events like Flint. The bigger question for me is, “How long will we continue to elect such people?”
@SRfromGR, if Snyder had the least bit of integrity, he would have resigned. He would resign following this report if he had any integrity and sense of responsibility. Who appointed the officials who headed MIDEQ, MIDHHS, and the emergency managers? Governor Snyder appointed them: he is indirectly responsible for their actions. I don’t believe that we will ever find evidence that Snyder knew and approved of what was happening in Flint. I hope I’m wrong – but I don’t really think he’s even as guilty as Henry II was of the murder of Thomas a Beckett.
Snyder needs to be held criminally accountable. I doubt his AG will do the necessary work unfortunately.
TPM:
The five-member task force interviewed 66 people during its months-long investigation and made a number of recommendations, including considering alternatives to the emergency manager system.
I’ve got an alternative to the emergency manager system: democratic elections.
Like most states, Michigan elects its Attorney General. The AG isn’t really Snyder’s AG. Unfortunately, the AG is a R, so it’s unlikely that he’ll do the work necessary. I seem to recall the AG appointing a Special Prosecutor to look into the matter, because his office is conflicted by providing legal advice to MIDEQ on the matter.
The bigger question for me is, “How long will we continue to elect such people?”
The BIGGEST question is why do we elect such people in the first place? The GOP propaganda machine is AWESOME!!! (and disgusting)
Governor Snyder accepts full responsibility for the Clint water crisis…and he will focus on studying this matter for as long as it takes. But we need to fire the EPA and anyone else who tried to warn us.
Governor Snyder is merely taking orders, like every other Republican Governor in America, from Charlie and David Koch. If the Koch’s can’t find a way to take the White House, they will take every state capitol possible.
Michigan, like Kansas like Maine like Texas like Oklahoma like Wisconsin are all working for the Koch Brothers.
Wake up 'merica!
Rep Matt Cartwright ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS Michigan Gov Rick Snyder “YOU NEED TO RESIGN”
Absolutely rips the little rat bastard a new asshole, tells him that if wasn’t nothing but a fuckin craven coward, he’d do the honorable thing and hit the road, don´t let the door hit you in the ass.
If you preach “personal responsibility” but refuse to take any once elected … you might be a Republican.
You would think that after seeing the complete destruction that the governors of these states have wrought, the first time, there would be no way they’d get re elected.
And yet that happened in most all those states. Now, they’re living with the consequences.
One of many RedState Govs…LA, WI, KS, AL, KY
All good Pubbies know that the cause of the mess is government. The people put in charge by Snyder to run the various departments of government that caused the problems had nothing to do with the problems. That is the personal responsibility us Pubbies talk about. Us Pubbies know that if we cause you to have problems, that is YOUR problem, not ours.
…add Arkansas and their favorite son, TomTom Cotton. They’re probably grooming him as their 2020 Candidate…
No, he got what he wanted at the time, a way to claim he was a fiscal conservative by being cheap. He didn’t plan on it exploding in his face.
