Other classmates told CNN that in classes she was a constant defender of Vladimir Putin and claimed that she was a middleman between President Trump’s campaign and the Russian government.

Only the most competent spies get drunk and blather about their spieyness. :cocktail:

I met a guy in a bar who was drunk and claimed to be the bassist for Jefferson Starship.

And of course the people that are actually doing secret stuff have a cover story. ‘Oh me? Payroll. You’d be surprised how interesting it is. People think it’s easy, but the different municipalities and codes change on a regular basis and it’s a real art to stay on top of those…’

Let me guess, it was like the scene from “A Few Dollars More”

Sure. My impression overall was he probably did some kind of consulting for the analysis side. Just research, no more derring-do involved than there is working on your master’s thesis. But it made him feel special, right? We all need something like that. Nice if you can be less of an ass about it, but you need it either way.

I was in a café once and met a Russian who claimed to be the Lifschitz of the famous Lifschitz and Landau QM text. His ID supported the claim.
I didn’t find out his position on gun rights, however.

As I recall, didn’t some of the 9/11 hijackers do the same thing before the attack?

I don’t know enough to legitimately have this opinion, but my sense, based on her actions and those of the ten spies we shipped off with Anna Chapman, is that she’s SVR and that SVR operates very differently, and trains agents differently, from the GRU and FSB. I think SVR probably puts agents through firearms training as a morale and esprit de corp thing, but doesn’t really have the kind of rigid concepts of tradecraft and discipline you see with the GRU and FSB who are doing classic spy stuff like trying to steal secret information or engage in acts of subversion and sabotage and subornation.

I suspect the SVR is fielding agents whose job is to exploit open societies by acting as agents of influence and gather general social and cultural intelligence and that in that role SVR even feels like a little flaunting of what they’re about through bad tradecraft is actually a helpful defense to espionage charges if they get caught.

Doesn’t mean she isn’t susceptible to catching a mysterious case of dead if her cooperation with the FBI is real cooperation and not “cooperation” that’s part of her mission parameters, though.

ETA: I think the SVR is how an ex-KGB autocrat thinks you do what the U.S. does with VOA, the Peace Corps, USAID, funding NGO’s, and diplomatic cables. And in his head, they’re exactly the same thing.

Boy! Howdy! That there is some prime Republican dating material!!! She likes them young guns best. Best of all, she isn’t looking for any long term commitment! She looks perfectly safe!

I don’t remember what he was drinking. But I remember he knocked my bass off its stand as he staggered over to it to wow us with some riffs. I was there playing in an awful, awful power pop band.

That gun looks ridiculous. It’s like a piece of f***ing tupperware. If I’m going to be shot I’d prefer it to be with a classic M1 rifle, but that’s the hipster in me I guess.
