yeah, I see multiple problems with this, and I’m by no means an authority on military activities or logistics. first off, 200 men to take and hold a reasonably large target, with no artillery or reinforcements once the target was taken? it appears, from the story, that they had mostly small arms, with US provided close air support. great, except only having small arms, no reinforcements and air support that has to be called in from some distance away is pretty much a recipe for disaster, against a determined, well armed, well led enemy. think “Operation Market Garden”, during wwII. whoever the military genius behind the planning for this operation owes those survivors a huge apology, for having put them in a no-win situation to begin with.
Well, Market Garden could have been a huge success had the SS armor division not been randomly R&R in Arnhem. Wars are won by taking risks. I’m not sure you have enough information to determine this is incompetence.
