You gotta love the south?

Says who?

I was being sarcastic

The Alabama Supreme Court sided with the birth mother in refusing to recognize the other woman as a parent and declaring the adoption invalid under Georgia law.

How does an Alabama court rule on matters of Georgia law?

Notice that…

the Supreme Court wrote in an unsigned opinion in which there were no recorded dissents.

Ha! I saw that! Also, the ruling was handed down without scheduling oral or a full briefing…

SCOTUS be like, “Yeah, that’s not how the law works…”

Why is it again that we need to replace Fat Tony? Seems like an improvement in judgment lately with the SCOTUS.

Me too.

It’s sad how much this reflects on the shittyness (shittiness?) of humans individually and in groups.

  1. Lesbian couple is happy together.
  2. Lesbian birth mother wants partner to adopt children.
  3. Lesbian couple is in Alabama that says “Gay bad, Bible good”.
  4. Lesbian couple goes to Atlanta, Georgia to have partner adopt children.
  5. Happy family with two loving parents.
  6. Lesbian couple’s relationship falls apart.
  7. Lesbian birth mother won’t let former partner see children.
  8. Lesbian birth mother looks to the anti-gay Alabama for help, which she previously tried to avoid, to keep children from seeing one of their mothers.
  9. Alabama happy to oblige, because, you know, family values.

I’m not really surprised that it would be an unsigned opinion. Once they’ve made same-sex marriage the law of the land, cases like this really shouldn’t even be getting to them. And even if some of them still hate gay people, all of them don’t like lower-court judges dissing supreme court decisions.

When the proper jurisdiction of the case is in Alabama, and a question of Georgia law impacts one or more of the matters in controversy.

Judge Roy “:Stand Up For Religious Bigotry” Moore.Loses again! Has this asshole ever won a social issue case that has gone to the SCOTUS with the exception of Planned parenthood clinics? Without Scalia on the court he may lose all of them too. What a zed.
