Discussion: Stormy Daniels' Crowdfunding For Trump Legal Battle Draws Scrutiny

Sadly, not even that’s true anymore.

Corporations long ago jettisoned “the public interest” from their list of concerns. Then they jettisoned concern for “employees”. Then they jettisoned concern for “customers”. Now, they don’t even care about “shareholders”.

All that matters is “executive compensation” – and whatever temporary charade is required to feather it.

Senior management pumps its own pay packages while dumping employees, moving offshore, devastating communities, defaulting on pensions, screwing customers, and leaving investors holding the bag – just in time to bail out, for the next One-Percent sinecure, by golden parachute.

Accountability to shareholders? See: Fargo, Wells (et al).

In only 200 short years, we’ve passed through the Agrarian Economy, the Industrial Economy, and the Information Economy. And now – finally – we’ve reached the shining apex, logical conclusion, and glorious be-all and end-all of Capitalism: the Take-The-Money-And-Run Economy.

Yeah. The primary purpose of most public corporations these days is to generate executive compensation.

I read just your first sentence, spewed laughter, and (after a brief period of recovery) gave you this “like.”

(I hope that the rest of your post doesn’t make me regret it.)

No regrets!

I wish that I could give your post a second (or even a third) “like.”

Well PV is a charity, of course.

Project Veritas is organized as a §501(c)3 organization, as determined
by the Internal Revenue Service. Gifts, donations and contributions are
tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

I’m trying to recall when they prosecuted Peter Thiel for secretly funding others’ lawsuits to bring down a company he didn’t like. Oh right, they let that slide, too.

edit: oops, you beat me to it. @yug_doog

Is that what’s also known as the Gig Economy?

Nuff said.

Now I automatically assume it’s somehow corrupt.

“It does bring up some ethical concerns in terms of who is actually giving this money and whether they will try to exert influence,” said Levinson,

How quaint

See, it is a both-side- do-it reporting.

We are concerned regarding Putin paying for Trump.

So, some news media has to report on the ethical question of who pays for the Avenatti/Daniels lawsuit.

I used to watch a TV show @ 15-20 years ago where that was the general plot line.

It was called The Sopranos.

Hey, TPM. What is it with these useless, bullshit articles? First you had the one about “Is Michael Avenatti Hurting His Client?! Enquiring minds want to know!!!”, and now this piece of useless journalistic tripe.
As someone previously posted, Peter Thiel personally paid for the destruction of Gawker, and I do not recall 35-foot screaming headlines about it from the AP or anyone else in the established media. And if I recall correctly, anyone can contribute to someone’s crowdfunding, whether they have $5.00 to give or $5000. Show me the illegality. Are Avenatti and Daniels going to have to testify before a House committee for 11 hours like Hillary did? Too bad they didn’t crowdfund for a $500M Indonesian real estate development. Apparently the AP thinks Trump’s rampant corruption is all peachy keen and neato.
I do not remember such overwrought reportage when there were half-million dollar crowdfunding totals for anti-gay cake bakers and anti-gay pizza restaurants. Funny how that works, ain’t it, peeps?

Of course they are exerting influence. They are supporting Stormy Daniels in her quest to kick the living shit out of Donald Trump in court. Why in the hell else would anybody be contributing? Like I’m going to contribute to a crowdfunding site that I don’t believe in?

BUT HER CROWDFUNDING!!!

Oh, you just fucking KNOW it’s gonna happen!

I am patiently waiting for Mrs. Greenspan to begin squawking, “Well, it is also the APPEARENCE of impropriety!”
