Michael Brown was killed because he attacked a cop. This is fact. Some may argue that the cop had other avenues than deadly force, but to argue that Michael Brown DIDNâT attack a cop is simply uninformed.
The violence in Ferguson was ramped up by the racist rhetoric coming from âblack leadersâ like Al Sharpton, with help from the US Attorney General and his boss. This, too, is a clear and defensible position. If Michael Brown and not been wanted on a strong-arm robbery charge, he wouldnât have been stopped. If he hadnât been high, he might not have attacked either the store owner or the cop, and he might be alive today.
To blame his death on anyone other than him is simply ill-informed.

Many people use the term racism when they really should use bigotry or prejudice. I might cross the street when approaching a group of young black men, but the reason would be prejudice rather than racism. I Donât have anything against young black men, but I am pre-judging them because they are statistically 7 times more likely to commit a violent act than young white men. Prejudice, like discrimination, is what keeps the smartest alive to perpetuate the species. Racism is a belief that one race is superior (or inferior) to another.
Racism is very hard to fight- it exists deep in the heart of most racists. Prejudice and discrimination are much easier to address, but, as Eric Holder says, we are a nation of cowards when it comes to discussing race. Nonetheless, allow me to start the conversation: If young black men were not 7 times more likely to commit crime than young white men, I might not feel the need to cross the street.

But how is one supposed to fix the problem if there is widespread prejudice against black men? You may only cross the street, harmless enough, but would you also refuse to hire one of those men? If you were a store owner would you send your security guard to trail them? Thatâs the problem, prejudice is a vicious circle, young black men are more likely to commit a crime so all black men are treated as possible criminals, making it harder for them to get ahead. That kind of thing leads some to resort to crime, and round the circle we go.
