No reason it can’t be seen as a 2-fer.
Stephen, please come to Arizona!!!
or perhaps Mitt Romney’s sons would each like to choose a few states and support education in this way . . . . (out of the approximate $20 million they were each given with no tax obligations)
More of this, please.
Setting an example very few will ever follow.
Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!
No American school anywhere should ever have to ask for a donation.
Once again, Mr. Colbert proves himself to be a national treasure and all-around stand up guy. A mensch, in other words. Bravo!
Finally, you make room for an article about a conservative Republican who did something that we can all… oh, the real Stephen Colbert. Now I feel like such a conservative Republican.
I am a heterosexual man who would proudly spoon with Colbert and watch The Notebook.
Contrary to popular opinion, all of us South Carolinians aren’t mean and stupid.
I miss him so much!
It reminds me of when Barbara Bush donated millions (I think $5MM) after hurricane Katrina. Oh wait, I almost forgot that it came with the provision that it could only be spent on educational software produced by the company owned by her son Neil.
So she got to give a gift to her son’s failing company and get a charitable donation write-off and claim that she was helping Katrina victims all at the same time. Meanwhile the son could claim a boost in sales. Now, THAT is class.
How awful that we have billion upon billions of dollars for the Pentagon, brag about American Exceptionalism, but cannot supply enough books, pencils and paper for our schools, a problem in almost every state.
Who among us here has not donated nearly as much to buy up our daughters’ Girl Scout cookies?
Thank you Stephen. I am sure teachers in SC appreciate you too!
Now, come to Arizona because we need you to help our schools… Our legislature is doing their level best to savage education in my state. The Universities have been cut by $99 million, K-12 cut by over well over $250 million and our state courts have ordered the state to send $350 million to K-12 schools because this money was taken in 2009 to balance our budget and never repaid… Our new governor is doing all he can to get out of paying that money to schools. Community colleges have been cut from our state budget entirely.
We need you Stephen!!!
Wouldn’t want to raise taxes on the job creators! Someone calculated that SC would have to raise taxes .16/per person to cover what Colbert is covering.
I wish they said what the kids in the room with them were going to do with their share of the money. They seemed to be as perplexed as me as to why they were there. Used as a prop by someone in that engagement, but who was it? I don’t think it was Stephen, since it was his donation that other people ‘matched’, but what’s the gimmick here?
I hope those kids get a week long summer camp trip for their troubles.
Class act.
Wear a beard for a few days, your whole perspective changes.
