They are going to drag their feet, do no in depth studies, and then waste it at the last minute. The Trump Administration and the GOP are complicit in the Russian hacking and I dont believe Trump’s election is the first time they rigged elections in the US.
Well said Arc - please send the same to ABC,CBS, and NBC news. The broadcast media has got to know that people care about what is actually happening on the ground, not the latest tweet.
Just as a point of clarification: They aren’t blocking anything. They were given the money, and just have not spent it.
Now this could be chalked up to incompetence. But looking at the totality of the circumstances, it seems much more like complicity.
Consider that:
Trump has not directed the NSA or any other agency to combat the Russian interference - leaving them without the authority to be effective.
Trump has failed to enact sanctions that were passed 98-2, and 419-3. This is not only a political failure, but potentially an illegal failure to comply. (Will Ryan or McConnell sue the sitting President? No.)
Not only have they failed to enact sanctions, but they disbanded the sanctions office.
Trump publicly asked Russia to hack Clinton’s email.
Trump has not criticized Russia at all. Ever.
There are a host of other things, but the point is that after 13 months of inaction, this is the Trump administration and the complicit GOP saying to Russia “Do it again please, we’re fine with it as long as we benefit”.
At the top (or bottom) of my list for inexcusable normalization of Trump — and other exceptionally bad actors in the GOP — is NPR. NPR has brought shame upon itself.
Perhaps it’s out of fear for their pittance of government funding. But I suspect it’s because anti-journalistic “balance” fetish has diseased NPR’s culture. Either way, the net is to treat liars with kid gloves and to bully sources that are telling the truth in an attempt to “balance” the coverage. Needless to say, I’ve stopped giving to NPR or to my local station.
Its not just this money, its much larger, Trump at this point had not ordered ANYONE to act to prevent it from happening again. McConnell watered down the Obama admin memo concerning meddling before the election and threatened to view any preventative action by the President as partisan. There is a pattern of behavior that is intentional on the part of all Republicans, but Democrats are really really terrible at messaging. And when they do come out strongly against something we get the very serious people bending over backward to give Republicans the benefit of the doubt: Its not intentional, its nothing nefarious they’re just incompetent…bullshit…Republicans are rotten to the core and will do anything to win, including working with a hostile foreign power. Remember they all benefited from the stolen emails, the whole damn lot of them is guilty as sin.
Here,in MO,we have Sen.Blunt&Cong.Luetkemeyer. My family & I pay taxes so they can be employed doing their jobs of protecting my family from foreign&domestic threats, but they refuse to do it. I’m outraged by the fact that there are no GOP legislators interested in doing the job they were elected to do. GOPers like to bitch about the government, and now, when they have all the branches under control, look what the worthless assholes are doing - no protection against Russia, destroying protection from predatory lenders&other businesses. And trump is busily keeping a list of his critics - so he can get even. WTF?
when you stopped donating to NPR did you tell them why? and I hope that that doesn’t include PBS, because NewsHour is the only decent broadcast news show left
My grandfather built a big beautiful split fieldstone house in 1917 in N. Michigan. In the 1950s my mother was pushing him to finally install a bathroom in the house but he resisted saying, “It’s gotten to the point where people want to shit inside and eat outside and I’ll have no part in it”. He died of food poisoning in 1956 and a few years later we finally got a toilet inside the house.
