Discussion: Starving Baby Sea Lion Rescued After Wandering Into Restaurant, Falling Asleep

Totally agree on Sea World.

That was Sea World. They should have spent the money on shutting down their operation.

Yes it’s a despicable thing to train animals to do stupid tricks, whales, bears, elephants, all of them. When I lived in San Diego, I would call Scripps if I saw a critter that needed attention, but SW does run a legitimate rescue program, and I’m sure you’d approve of the help they do provide.

I wish SeaWorld cared about its captive marine mammals as much as it cared about wild ones like this.

Oh, poor precious baby sea lion.

Thank you for saving her!

Unfortunately these highly publicized rescue operations are just public greenwashing to distract people from the hell their captive marine mammals experience every day.

That sea lion reminds me of Jeb Bush somehow

hmm. not one comment so far on why this is happening. Scientists say the animals’ food supply has been affected by higher-than-normal ocean temperatures linked to El Nino.

Rarely does the word “passionate” get hooked up with the word “ambivalence,” but it kinda does when you’re talking about SeaWorld.

Assuming this female is a California sea lion, they grow to full maturity at arout 6 feet & 225 pounds. You’ll need a pretty big, deep pool and lots of live or raw fresh-killed seafood, every day, repeatedly thru the day. Then there are the vet bills (Good luck getting her fixed.)! Pretty sure you’ll have trouble getting a license for your new pet.

Aren’t Republicans supposed to believe we’re ordered to be good stewards of the earth by the Almighty? Maybe there’s some fine print in the Bible about profits over everything.

They called SEAWORLD? That’s like calling McDonald’s to “rescue” a lost calf.
Northern CA has the Marine Mammal Center and a couple of other non-profits that rehab and release critters like these. They do incredible work.
Doesn’t SoCal have something similar instead of a corporate animal-torture entertainment company?

In Alaska last month we also learned that parts of Alaska’s coastal mudflats and high water mark are covered with tens of thousands of dead murres. The birds depend on a food source that has been cut drastically by the warm waters of El Niño and global warming. Since the warmer surface water is most affected, the birds have been starving en masse. Maybe the LaJolla seal lives on the same food source as the Murres?

There is NO DOUBT in my mind that the various “die offs” that we’ve seen in the past 5 years, and the many more in the future, are an ominous harbinger of some bad times to come for humans. The proverbial canary in the coal mind

but our gop friends just do not want to think about it. it just makes everything so inconvenient.

You and @estamm are NOT alone, @Chammy. The darr household could find room too. I’d hafta severely lower the temperature of the family hot tub but it would be a small sacrifice. Our 3 cats and the dog (all rescues) would learn to make accommodation.

This is really sad! The waters are so warm that the mammals that live in the waters can no longer thrive in heated waters
we have got to take care of our climate now or else we will completely destroy this world!
