Discussion: Spicer On Carl Vinson Movement: 'It Happened. It Is Happening, Rather'

Well you know according to many interpretations of the Cave, the mysterious figure behind the prisoners carrying the figurines that cast the shadows is supposed to represent the sophist, so it could be.

On the other hand, sophists are supposed to be skillful rhetoricians so maybe not.

“President” Drumpf said: “We are sending an armada [to North Korea], very powerful.”. . . .by way of the Indian Ocean.

Quit being such flat-earthers!

We’ve known since we discovered that the world is round, that you can get anywhere by going in any direction. So when they claimed that the Carl Vinson was heading upward towards North Korea, they were absolutely 1000% accurate because it’s course to the south, if continued (taking the odd curve to avoid hitting Antarctica), would have eventually led straight to North Korea.

You carpers and criticizers are so ignorant of both geometry and geography! So there.

I wish I could have seen the faces of the media as Spicey blamed them for not getting the story right because they didn’t ask the right questions. Priceless!

Later as the media presses them on it more it will be Obama’s fault.

Trump to Mattis: “Where is the Carl Vinson? The world wonders.”

Wait, wait…Trump says take the next left.

I am coming to this story late. So confused. Is the ‘armada’ actually a sub attack group and Trumpinski blew it’s cover? So DoD made up shit about Carl Vinson as cover? Because The Trumpet Speaks Only Truth.

You really don’t know what you are talking about do you, SpiceBoy?

Then shut up, why don’t you!?

No, he favors “snack attack”.

No. Trump’s use of the word ‘armada’ was a reference to 18th century navy tactics and strategy. We don’t call them aramadas now, we call them fleets, or more precisely in this case, a strike force. Trump is just clueless was probably watching Black Sails the night before.

That actually is a bit of a problem, as there is lots of finger pointing going on. Clearly the Navy Dept knew were the Carl Vinson task force was, it was engaging in training maneuvers with the Australians. The questions that remain, at least to me, is…did Mattis issue an order and the Navy Dept blew him off, or did they tell him…yeah sure, we will get up there in our own precious time? Was the order sufficiently vague to start with? (seems doubtful). Did Mattis get confused and just caved in to what the White House wanted to hear and said it was happening when it wasn’t happening? Did the White House even bother to ask, or just thought it sounded cool so they went with it?

The bottom line for me is…the White House not knowing where a major carrier strike force is while threatening to use it in another place thousands of miles away…is not a little boo-boo. Its a major F–ing crisis. We have seriously damaged our standing in the world, both with allies and enemy states, with this.

Indeed. Not a great idea to bluff an adversary by saying you have a fleet headed toward them, if that’s not true and it turns out they’re nowhere near and aren’t even heading that way. Because the next time you make that threat, the adversary you’re attempting to intimidate may simply ignore the warning. And Murphy’s Law, which very much applies to foreign policy and military adventures of all kinds, dictates this failure to believe the threat will come at the very worst moment.

I think Trump blundering into war due to sending mixed signals and lacking credibility (and of course general incompetence and craziness) may be at least as great a threat as Trump sending us to war on purpose, in an attempt to distract from his failing presidency. And sadly I think neither of these potential paths to war is all that unlikely.

HEY, HAS ANYONE SEEN MY AIRCRAFT CARRIER?
How can an administration misplace an entire aircraft carrier group? I mean … this information is beyond disturbing and should never be in the view of the public. Cuz trump doesn’t wanna telegraph his intentions ya knows.
When those at the top of the chain of command don’t know where an entire carrier group is this is serious. This is dereliction, or plain incompetence. The Carl Vinson was photographed in the Sunda Strait a day or two ago after port call in Singapore and was nowhere near Korea.

Or he was watching “Elizabeth - The Golden Age” (natch, golden, eh?) and got the historical participants and the outcome mixed up. [snicker]

Am I comforted knowing that trump hasn’t the 1st clue how the military (in this case the Navy) are deployed?
…
Top echelon administration people did not know where the Carl Vinson attack group was at least for several days. Should this be a concern?
…
I am (based on the amazing skill level of Navy people I know) assuming those who needed to know on the Carl Vinson knew exactly where they were even if their commanders did not.
…
Or did the Carl Vinson Captain and the Chief Navigator grow to hate that GPS voice?

We have seen that recently when trump said he launched 59 missiles at Iraq and never bothered to make a distinction between Syria and Iraq. To him it’s apparently all “over there somewhere or other. It’ll all turn out Ok…trust me”.
trump I suspect , could not find America if presented with a map of the world much less Korea, Syria or Iraq.
We could play “pin the tail on the donkey” and trump would miss Florida entirely.

U.S. Navy officials confirmed that the Vinson was nowhere near Korea, telling Defense News off the record they didn’t understand why the media kept reporting the strike group was headed that way. “We’ve made no such statement,” one official said. Among those who did suggest the U.S. is sending “an armada,” including submarines, toward North Korea was President Trump

Might want to correct “Nov. 15” to “Apr. 15” in the 3rd paragraph.

Absolutely!
