Discussion: Spicer 'Confident' DeVos Will Be Confirmed Despite Some GOP Opposition

“I have 100 percent confidence she’ll be the next Secretary of Education,” Spicer said.

And why shouldn’t she be? Sure, she’s grotesquely unqualified for the position, but she’s not uniquely unqualified for the position. In that regard, she’s the equal of all of the other Cabinet nominees.

There’s no reason to single her out. That would be unkind.

Sasse, McCain, Graham, Paul? I think those are the most likely for us to turn. Anybody in one of those states?

Spicer maintained that he wasn’t worried about the Senate vote tally even though it currently stood at a tie.

and there is always appointment by executive order - seems to work for everything.

“she has never taught at or even attended a public school”

Same rationale I use for sending the kids to a priest for sex ed

(it’s a joke, don’t ever send your kids to a known pedophilia cult, for sex ed or anything else)

“there is always appointment by executive order”

Constitution requires senate confirmation.

If Sessons is confirmed before her senate vote, HE can’t vote/participate, then she loses.

I’m betting someone gets to at least one of them. Goopers don’t stand up well to leadership and WH pressure. They won’t even need Pence.

What a clueless jerk DeVos must be. It’s amazing she hasn’t pulled out yet. No normal person would want a job that clearly so many people are uncomfortable with her getting.

I don’t have sympathy for the GOP, but DeVos and Trump have put them in a miserable bind here. What an entitled clueless f’ing jerk.

They may not need another GOP no vote, if they confirm Sessons.

Jesus, there’s a Faustian bargain

Call Republican Senators and urge a no vote on Betsy De Vos’ nomination for Secretary of Education. The first link below gives a basic script for different topics and the second has the Senators’ contact data.

No, just a fact.

Better to defeat Sessions’ confirmation for AG. and take chances with DeVos. Rs want to get rid of Dept of Education anyway, don’t they? Sessions is far too cozy with Commander Orange Marmalade (thank you, Trae).

Spicer really doesn’t care how he looks .

Think of it this way, in TX there are a hell of a lot pf Rep teachers. This pick in the end may convert them.

Trump: Constitution says a lot of things - Constitution sometimes has a big mouth
…sometimes right sometimes not so much … I say it is OK

Agreed, but I don’t think the R’s will abandon their colleague. DeVos they are already backing off of a little bit. Two defections is a lot from this bunch. Ideally we can pick one or two more off.
