Discussion: Speaker Ryan Says Congress Has 'Every Right' To Not Confirm SCOTUS Nominee

[The President] shall nominate, and, by and with the Advice and
Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers
and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the
United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided
for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law
vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in
the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of
Departments.
Article 2 Section 2 clause 2 of the US Constitution (bolding is mine)
…
Mr Ryan, you and your GOPer crowd in the House aren’t involved in this. Read the language Mr Ryan. It’s the SENATE that does the consenting and advising of Supreme Court nominee’s and the House isn’t mentioned. Further the language is “shall nominate” which means it isn’t an option. If it were the framers would have used the word “may”.
So, Mr Ryan, sit down and shut up.

Eddie Munster started out all right with “We are knee deep…”

That’s good if you are on a camping trip or measuring the poles for horseshoes… But the syllables and the letters kept getting bigger and bigger and before you knew it…

He lost control

Did you mean “to whoever wins”? “Whoever” is the subject of “wins”, which trumps its role as object of “to” (the object is really the entire phrase “whoever wins”, it seems to me).

Yes, but guess what Lyin’ Ryan: You don’t get a say in this, do you?

And just how is nominating an appointee to the Supreme Court–a branch that balances executive and legislative power imply executive branch overreach?

I’m beginning to think this is going to be fun.

Awh! Now isn’t that cute?
Well Eddy Munster, please preceed.
Please proceed.

Hey Eddie! How’s your budget coming? Why not stick to House matters and let The Turtle carry the load on Supreme Court nominees? In over your head, aren’t yah…
I like the tie!

Petulant children say what? Sit down and eat your vegetables. And quit whining.

They’ll have hearings, drag them out, filibuster etc., etc, until we nominate Bernie, lose the general in a landslide, then dump Obama’s pick and put one of their own in.

Once again Ryan shows he is not qualified to be the speaker

Well, wrong “they” in any case. Unless being Speaker of the HOUSE makes you a Senator.

And well you are exactly what president is it you are referring to? From what I can see there is only precedent for moving forward.

So did god take justice Scalia away because the right has gone just to far and will there be an equal punishment for this equally misinterpretation of the inspired by god constitution?

Plus, as a second-term President, Barack Obama has technically been a lame duck since January 20, 2013. Should he not have been permitted to do anything from that date forward, since he couldn’t be held accountable for it at the ballot box?

That’s right, Eddie Munster…keep stirring the pot you little jerk.

Big difference between voting down and not having a vote at all, Paulie.

Well… perhaps Mr Ryan should dig up Saint Ronnie and have the argument with him… Reagan said:

“…to join together in a bipartisan effort to fulfill our constitutional obligation of restoring the United States Supreme Court to full strength."

See the full video Here:

President Obama should string together a bunch of quotes like this and then beat the Senate over the head with them at every opportunity. He should tell them that they have two choices: They can do their constitutional duty and go forward with the process or they can try to pass a constitutional amendment to make the constitution say what they think it says. Because the last time he checked the meaning of the words of the constitution cannot be changed via marching orders from el Rushbo.

Don’t be silly the constitution doesn’t say that. By Scalia’s ‘originalism’ the clear intent of the constitution is that as a black man Obama only gets 3/5ths of a 4 year term as President and since we are replacing Scalia the only reasonable thing to do is use his wildly inconsistent, self-serving judicial philosophy to make all decisions.

Maybe an argument could be made that since Obama’s mother was white we should split the difference and let him have 4/5ths a term but he’s got way to much melanin to be a real President.

Well, Paulie, since you’re in the House and not the Senate and therefore have nothing to do with this, fuck off.

I never got into fights when I was in school. If I had been in school with Ryan, I would have.

And Obama has the right to veto every single budget bill that comes before him.

But that would be irresponsible and dangerous. The Senate, the House, and the President all have jobs that need doing, if you want our Constitutional government to survive.
