Discussion for article #243724
When Sen. Kelly Ayotte voted against banning suspected terrorists from buying guns then later used social media to tout her support for a similar ban, the muddled message angered some of Republican backers and led Democrats to peg her as a hypocrite.
She wants to hold the base, but needs the center as well. What to do, what to do?? She’ll just split the baby in half because that always works so well.
“She isn’t afraid to lead where others won’t and call it like she sees it.”
Nice to know what Republicans think leadership is.
Ayotte is one of my senators (thank the gods that Shaheen is the other) and I’ve been watching her for five uncomfortable years. She voted to uphold the gun show loophole, got suckered into flacking for the GOPers’ Benghazi witch hunt, and tends to vote the party line most of the time that she’s told to. When she does something rational, like supporting clean energy, she touts her vote as if she came up with the idea by herself instead of jumping on the bandwagon after it’s already moving. She has a completely undistinguished record, serves only as a cog in the GOP machine, and needs to be replaced with someone whose legislative courage goes beyond bucking the party line now and then.
This photo (allegedly with Rubio) is clearly a fake. They must have photoshopped McCain and/or Graham out of it.
I’m sure her Democratic successor will get every bit as much time on the Sunday shows as she has.
Has Ayotte picked a clown to back from the R’s clown car primary yet? Here’s hoping she has (or will) vocally support Carnival Cruz, but from the sound of it she’s backing away from the batshit crazy wing in favor of the merely crazy wing.
What do you think about Governor Hassan who’s running for Ayotte’s seat calling for a ban on refugees from Syria settling in NH? She may be the only Democratic governor to do so and it’s thought that she’s appealing to those who would support Ayotte who’s also called for banning refugees…
She has also defended the use of torture,(I won’t use the term enhanced interrogation) which is illegal and violates the UN convention on torture signed by conservative hero Reagan in 1985. It puts her out of step with McCain who opposes torture and actually was in the Hanoi Hilton. Since she was NH AG she ought to know the law.
I think she’s toast.
It’s chicken shit is what it is. One would think Mary Landrieu settled this question for a while.
They do have to vote for her. This is smart on her part. Like Birtherism, Benghazi, and half a dozen other batshit crazy notions, the GOP will abandon those she has already abandoned. Not that they won’t take up some other crazy shit, but she is just a bit ahead of her low information voters.
Oh to be wooed
Ayotte, in my memory has been the ever faithful ‘female’ conservative. She has filled a lot that they so sorely lack, which is-women against women but for the Republican Party.
New Hampshire could do a lot better and Hassan ought to get all the ladies involved that he can and get them all out to vote.
