Good point—certainly anyone who’s simply an uncritical, never-critical “supporter” of Israel, no matter what it does, is contributing to the stalemate.
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
I think people who “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” as the English hymn says, are wrong.
Israel, Jerusalem, Zion, etc., are used in Scripture to mean much more than the actual places involved.
It is amazing to me that after about seven thousand years of the Old and New Testament, Christians have not come to understand this.
But, of course, this can be easily explained. Everyone wants to express a sentiment which they hope will inspire respect and awe in others. Christians want to be respected, so they seek that respect from Jews, politicians and others who support the Jewish people or Israel.
This is similar to those who excessively wave the American flag and sing “God Bless America.” They believe they will engender respect in others who will laud them for their fervent patriotism.
A child may mimic his father, and his father may look upon him dotingly and feel pride in and love for his son. But the child’s actions are juvenile.
We are not children and we have the responsibility to be mature, intelligent and circumspect. The Presbyterians in the picture above are not children but their actions, just as the actions of fervent flag-wavers and maudlin “God Bless America” singers, are juvenile.
This behavior reminds me of a well-known cartoon dog:
Have a Dovely.
Sincerely yours,
Caleb Boone.
