I’m guessing that’s the point. Just reinforcing the fact that the Republicans are completely irresponsible, and pretty much own all the mess that has been coming from Congress the past few years, and will likely come from them in the coming month.
LOL. Give’em Hell! And get it done.
The whole idea of a debt ceiling dates to 1917, when it was enacted as a way of keeping track of Liberty Bond debt.
Since 1918, it has served no purpose, and was a routine mater until the GOP decided to use it to hold the nation hostage to their insane demands.
Correct what Reid suggests is common sense and no one, no one believes this Republican Congress has retained an ounce of common sense.
It’s argualby unconstitutional, based on the post-Civil War Amendment I can’t remember the number of right now. Some Federal Bondholders - who can show direct harm if the government defaults - should file a suit to that end, and we can get rid of this silly rule that confuses people (see: Dr. Ben Carson) once and for all.
You’re right, but I don’t know that the courts would find that not raising the debt limit is questioning the validity of the US debt.
Wrong first punch, boxer.
Jab with “abolish the stupid thing.” And negotiate for an open vote for a debt ceiling that gets us into the next Congress. Then run candidates on an “abolish the stupid thing” platform.
What does Peter King say? He is a complete a-hole conservative, but he is a leader of the not-an-arsonist faction. Who routinely sprays a large Wall-Street money hose across broad swathes of the Republican caucus.
I think she can. I’d call them “The Eisenhower Caucus”, which would enter into a governing coalition with the Democrats. I’ve been suggesting this possibility for several weeks now-- to the general skepticism of fellow TPMers. It’s still an improbability, but every development makes it a bit less improbable. But timing is everything; it would require the Rs not being able to come up with a viable Speaker candidate and to go through several votes without success.
A disgusting but apt metaphor.
