Discussion: South Korean Opposition Parties Agree To Impeach President Park Geun-hye

Not good. First, the Philippine president goes all Rambo on us, and now the South Korean prez is headed for the exits. Pretty soon, we will be sidelined in the Asia-Pacific.

Also, a far-right candidate, with pro-Russian view, wins a French primary. Angela Merkel bracing for a tough re-election.

A united Europe faces an uncertain future.

Vladimir Putin and China gleefully eye opportunities for future expansionism and adventurism.

And here in the US, between Trump’s threat to rip up trade and defense deals, and Brexit, the words of WB Yeats have never seemed truer:

" … Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold,
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world…"

South Korean politics being what they are, this should still be on wait and see mode. The level of corruption over there makes what goes on over here look tame in comparison. If you think the old boy network is strong over here, it’s ingrained over there. The opposition is primarily made up of the more progressive parties. The conservatives have had a lock on the electoral process since they started having democratic elections.

President Park simply over-played her hand and thought no one would notice. Considering all the mishaps that have occurred over there, it was just a matter of time before things started caving in.
