Discussion: Small Group Of GOPers To Affirm Climate Change Ahead Of Pope's Visit

That was my thought - they really do believe in heaven and hell and they’re seeking absolution. Wankers.

Progress is progress, even if it is baby steps. Just getting nine GOPers from the House to admit humans are the reason for climate change… I’m calling that a win.

blueberry tomato soup: totally agree with you. got to start somewhere with these guys so kudos to the brave nine. however, it’s a darn shame that they have to start with a congressional study to see what is going on. if only there had been meaningful scientific inquiry over the years. WAIT! there is tons of this stuff. (maybe we will be sailing someday, although the waters will be much deeper. thx, bob).

Rep. Chris Gibson (R-NY) penned a resolution stating that human activity contributes to climate change and urged his fellow Republicans to sign on

Good luck with that. (I mean that sincerely)

GOP pols can ignore scientists, and more than a few will be saying the Pope is a socialist or some equivalent bunk. When all is said and done, much will be said and nothing will be done. It’s a foregone conclusion and everybody knows it. Also how interesting that suddenly their most favorite political issue should become non political.

They won’t do squat. Not even the Pentagon can budge these professional grade blockheads. For the second year in a row the DoD report to Congress says anthropomorphic climate change is a near term threat to our security from terrorists. http://www.newsweek.com/pentagon-report-us-military-considers-climate-change-immediate-threat-could-277155

Yeah. That proposal will go far in the insane caucus. Not.

FFS! We have it bad enough in KS with the assholes we have without adding this one.

Well, Inhofe is from one of the flat states. You don’t really expect us to remember which one is which, do you?

A public act of reparation.

10 republicans? That doesn’t even come close to the floor. It goes right into Boehner’s circular filing cabinet.

Besides, he actually does have much bigger things on his mind right now. Like how to preserve his job and stop the crazies from staging yet another shutdown.

Driving home from a doctor’s appt just now I heard a story on the area of India called The Sunderbans. It’s the border area between Bangladesh and India. Well, the sea level is rising, people are losing land and homes there and it’s ripping up their social fabric. So, climate change is here, now. Not a decade away…NOW.
I know no republican dimwit will look at this graph and believe what it says but here goes:

Note that the temperature increase coincides with the industrial revolution when coal began to be burned in huge amounts.

I would term them “weapons grade” blockheads. Perhaps they may notice the problem when New Orleans and half of Florida floods from a high tide and not a hurricane.

Resolution to study? The rest of us resolved to study it 30 years ago. How is this progress?

call for action to study

The time for study is long past, clown. There’s been lots of study, and the answers are known. We are in the middle of tanking the exam, and failure will not be pretty.

I suppose I should be happy that (a very few) Republicans aren’t shutting out consideration of reality entirely, but this is a call for hemidemisemiaction, and it’s gonna take a bit more than that to ameliorate, let alone prevent, the onrushing disaster.

The sad thing is they have a better chance getting an audience with the pope then having influence with the party platform or getting legislation passed.

I never understood what people saw in Mario, but Andrew is a POS from what I’ve seen from afar.

Completely OT, but I am reminded of the story of my great uncle, Yankel Shneiderman, who “Americanized” his name when he moved here from Canada (after having moved from Zhitomir to begin with). He changed it to Adelman.
