I agree. He was as much to blame as anyone.
Good to see that sane explanations take precedence over shits storms. Bravo: Dr Stevens.
Itâs not only scary to watch Sean Smithâs mother, Patricia go on a full blast crusade against HRC, a high level of cynicism is generated, watching Republicans go batshit evil-crazy on this subject. Good heavens!
Have they no shame? To infuse âJoe Six-packâ, American Rube with toxic, diabolical Benghazi mis-information, going back to Vince Foster is beyond evilâŚ
The testimony of Dr. Stevens is truly ennobling
Oh do chill out my friend and turn on your snark-o-meter
Iâm waiting for the first republican to say their names. They mentioned Sidney Blumenthalâs name at the 11-hour hearing 49 times, âemailâ 118 times.
The whole term âblameâ is, I think, out of line here. One of the risks of being a diplomatic officer is getting killed if youâre in a dangerous post (and sometimes you canât tell which posts are dangerous beforehand). Stevens made the decision that doing his job required him to go somewhere that wasnât safe. Sure, he didnât think heâd get killed, but he knew the risk and clearly thought it worthwhile. We shouldnât second-guess him. (We should also be wary of second-guessing embassy security numbers â itâs not clear what kind of force would have been required to create a situation where it wouldnât have just been a lot more people getting killed.)
(Why yes, my grandfather was in the foreign service, mostly in in safe places.)
Some of the post Reagan Republicans are still butt hurt about Watergate and the nationally televised Impeachment Hearings. Some of the post Reagan Republicans are still butt hurt about the Civil War, Brown v Board of Ed, the Civil Rights Act, and the Voting Rights Act. Their long, drawn out investigation of the Obama Administration for GWB initiative Fast and Furious was their template for Benghazi!Benghazi!Benghazi! However, their use of taxpayer money to conduct an investigation where Democrat members were regularly excluded from process and input are new developments in underhanded, low class obstruction. Just like their refusal to do their job on Merrick Garland.
Somebody has to go over to those unstable places and be our point man. Ambassador Stevens was willing to be that man â WANTED to be that man â even knowing the dangers.
Itâs OK to say âItâs a terrible tragedy but at the same time, Stevens knew what he was getting into and accepted the risksââŚeven though the professional outrage-mongers on the Reich Wing would try to screech and shame people into believing itâs not OK.
mattinpa: the trumpsters would say you are just so PC.
there is a huge difference between not being PC and having no human decency. spreading hate and fear mongering is politically corrupt. it is all trump knows how to do (besides running businesses into the ground).
Time for the GOP to politicize another Stevens for electoral gain
The GOP doesnât wave the bloody shirt, they wave the whole damned corpse.
I think that you meant post-Nixon but yeah, they never let anything go, no matter how soundly the defeat or egregious the wrong. They only keep these things alive by harping and harping.
Anything Clinton at all eats their lunch daily after all the effort to at least discredit them and coming up empty handed over and over.
Thatâs a big investment with nothing to show for it. The wise thing to do would be to cut their losses but the wise thing to do wouldâve been to never start, so thereâs that.
One should also note that whenever a Republican cites an anti-Clinton statement from one of the Benghazi family members, it tends to sound like something a Republican partisan might say under normal circumstances, like âIâd like to see Hillary wearing stripesâ.
I dont consider Nixon era Republicans as ideological and racist as the brand that became fashionable with Reaganâs campaign (Fallwellites, converted Dixiecrats, Howard Jarvis California whites against taxes, gays and use of any language other than English etc). I have always felt Nixon era Republicans including those who remained after he resigned to be pragmatic centrists compared to what came after. But agree with you on the rest. Thank you. Also, your post made me remember the pre-Watergate âDirty Tricksâ contingent, which remains in the GOP camp.
Just got out of a staff meeting where my boss said Hillary was claiming that report proves again that she had no responsibility was BS and she was a bitch. For a smart guy when it comes to running a business itâs amazing he canât see the benefits of a government that helps people on the low in of the scale and creates more buyers and a conserative party that pretty much always does way more to hurt the economy than help it.
Yeah. And since sheâs a woman, sheâs obviously biased towards Hillary! /s
