I really wonder what would happen if someone like Warren, who has a firm command of the legal system and how religion fits into it, went there and asked them how they think it is legal to force their God onto the rest of the nation, asked them to point out where God is in the Constitution, and why they think it’s appropriate to violate a woman’s rights by interfering with her maternal decisions and how that dips into crossing the line into politics. I doubt they could handle the discussion without turning into the hateful creatures they are, which would probably be good for the nation…people really should see the hateful side of these Christians as the theocrats who are completely content to destroy the nation to further their power grab.
I appreciate the response. I get what happened and read the article, seeing mention of the 3 who FIRST refused the invite only several sentences in (and I meant that you didn’t bother reporting it when it happened, not that it wasn’t in this article). Credit where it’s due: THEY led the way. That’s more important than making the lede all about what you’re proud to be first to report. Being first seems to be a priority over accuracy too often in the “news” business and leads to misperceptions.
…and here is an opportunity…to sit down and talk in a respectful environment.
Y’know, weren’t you the folks who always said you can go to Hell for lyin’.
“Conservative Christian Summit”
LOL. I’d sooner go to a Gathering of the Jugalos.
These days who can tell the difference?
in a respectful environment
RRRIIIGGGHHHTTT.
The Jugalos are less apt to be full of shit.
Instead of attending an obviously biased venue, Dem’s should produce their own “Value Voters” summit on the same day. Invite representatives from most religious and secular morals based organizations and lay it all out.
ETA: Q suggestion; When were marriage vows considered to be only a suggestion? Hmm, RiggedRight?
Fair re: the paragraph order, and I’ve shuffled the article a bit to get them up higher. We wanted to get their quotes up high but that did mean bumping the first three candidates down a little. I believe Buttigieg and Booker declined today, and only O’Rourke declined Friday, so they weren’t much earlier. Still waiting on Biden…
So I’m going to be an outlier. I find it regrettable that they turned down the invitation. No, I don’t expect any minds to be changed, at least among that group. But look what Bernie did going into the lion’s den of Fox news. I think it would be revealing how each of the candidates could parry questions and speak from the strength of their faith and conviction. It’s easy to preach to the choir. How would they have handled a hostile audience? They would need to that as President.
I think Joe should go …
and wear a little sexy devil suit with fuzzy horns —
just to see the look on their faces ----
They can reach the same audience without pandering to the event or it’s organizer.
The Family Leader says its mission is to “Strengthen families, by inspiring Christ-like leadership in the home, the church, and the government.”
And what Christ-like leadership their kind has installed in the White House.
They must be reading out of a special Bible these days, from “thou shalt covet thy neighbor’s pussy, and grab it if you can” to “thou shalt suffer the little children by locking them up in freezing cages.”
I’d take them up on their invitation, but I’ve been a Jesus freak for nearly half a century, and know my Bible more than well enough to hit those bastards where it hurts. I wouldn’t recommend this approach for most candidates, and I think they did the right thing to decline.
A respectful environment where Democrats are asked, “Why do you kill babies?”
Yeah, real respectiful.
"… to a constituency that they rarely have the opportunity to speak to.”
R-i-i-i-ght. Because white Christians are difficult to find in Iowa. Or anywhere else in America.
No, I don’t expect any minds to be changed, at least among that group.
If no minds were changed then why go? THEY get legitimacy, the audience gets virtually nothing because they don’t believe. An unequal relationship to say the least.
Guess none of the Dems want to play Daniel.
And “Why do you kill babies” is exactly the sort of question they’d need a killer response to.
Mine would be “when I see your love in action for those already born, I’ll start taking seriously your love for the unborn. Until then, I think you’re just using it as a cudgel, as a political prop. You don’t care one bit about the unborn, and it shows in how you treat those in need who are already walking the earth.”
There are Christians of good will who really practice their faith. This Conservative Christian summit is nothing more than a richly funded political tool to stoke hate and white supremacy in this country. No wonder they love Fat Donnie.
This group is part of the tRump base. Nothing anyone can say or do will influence their opinions or their votes.
Good for them. Reminds me of CPAC in a way. What Dem would be caught dead at one of those batshit crazy confabs? Obviously, these family values types, in Christian name only, have no problem supporting a racist, anti-immigrant, Muslim-hating and gay bashing adulterer, liar and money launderer. If they share those values with trump, who needs them? Fucking hypocrites. I’m glad they won’t be going to support and give this group any legitimacy. They haven’t earned it.
