Discussion: Shorter Trump: When I Fight Back, I Get Accused Of Obstruction Of Justice!

Yes, Donald. When you control the levers of the government, fighting back is obstruction.

As President, you’re not supposed to ‘fight back’ on every little thing. You’re supposed to do the work of the people.

So, this is the defense being floated against the likely obstruction charges? “I’m a businessman. I’m tough. When I fight back, I fire people, and bully people, and intimidate people, and try to get those I keep employed to pledge their loyalty to me. Because I’m the boss, you see.”

ETA: And what are you fighting back against?
An investigation into whether Russia attacked us by interfering in our election - traitor.
An investigation into whether you and your campaign cooperated with Russia - obstruction.
An investigation into your obstruction - more obstruction.
To support your claim that it’s all a hoax and a witch hunt - guilty traitorous obstructor of justice.

Question to Trump - Mr Trump, what behaviors do you believe would constitute “obstruction of justice”?

In the same scrum with reporters, Trump said he was “looking forward” to speaking with Mueller and that he would do so under oath — a promise that a White House attorney quickly walked back.

Comey wasn’t attacking you. Mueller isn’t attacking you. FBI investigators aren’t attacking you. You aren’t fighting “back” when you are trying to halt or hobble the investigators.

You can fight back. America was built on the belief that you should be able to do that. But it depends on how you fight. Lying during questioning is fighting back but it’s also illegal. Fighting the facts is OK but attempting to erase them or muddy them is obstruction, which I suppose is fighting back after a fashion but its also illegal. Like prize fighting, there’s the Marquess of Queensberry’s rules and there’s hitting below the belt. Firing Comey was a kick in the nuts.

In his world you are 1000% for him or 1000% against him.

And then there’s Lindsay Graham.

Trump, after he is charged with lying under oath:

“When I answer all their questions, I get accused of perjury!”

It’s only a matter of time until he names his horse as a senator.

Oh, President Sparkle Pony… trying to extort loyalty from Comey wasn’t fighting back. Crafting a blatant lie to cover for your criminal son wasn’t fighting back. Lying about everything and everyone from the Intel Community to the media to HRC to the Dems to the people who aren’t members of your herd was/is not fighting back.

What it is is obstruction of justice and criminal conspiracy. But I’m sure Mr. Mueller will have a pop-up book to explain it all when the time comes. Hopefully very, very soon.

Yes, Donald, when you fight back against the administration of justice, that is obstruction of justice by definition. You can fight back in court, but not by using a position of power to fire prosecutors or investigators.

I hate Trump’s face. Both of them.

I believe that the issue tRump is most afraid of is money laundering. If Mueller has found evidence - and I think he probably has - this will destroy tRump’s claim to be a billionaire and most likely send him and the early spawn up the Hudson.

The most newsworthy aspect of the whole interview was how he responded when asked how he was defining ‘collusion’. His answer: “You define it …”

In other words, his words mean absolutely nothing and everyone can just take whatever he says to mean whatever they want, but they are all wrong because it’s only what Trump decides it means at the time that matters.
Asking the Russians to hack Hillary for her emails is collusion, even if he says it in public.
Don Jr. saying “I love it” and arranging the meeting knowing that the Russians were looking to help Don Sr. is collusion. (And who could honestly believe that Don Sr. didn’t know all about it. He advance trolled that he would have something big, but that never materialized.)
Having many, many, many campaign aides holding secret meetings with Russians then lying about it and pleading guilty to crimes is collusion.
Laundering hundreds of millions of dollars for those very same Russians is collusion.

It has been pointed out by many talking heads on TV and the Internet that “collusion” is not a crime. “Collusion” is just a word with a meaning that may or may not describe actions that are in violation of various criminal statutes. Collude could mean “assist”. Everyone would agree on that. Collude could mean “set in motion”.

Here’s a statute that could apply:

18 USC 2383: Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Russian was provably and admittedly attempt an insurrection against the election laws governing the US, and Trump and his associates were in collusion with them by any reasonable definition of that word. You don’t have to take up arms to commit treasonous offenses. Colluding with a foreign power to undermine the authority of the US is enough.
