It’s just how he talks and how he thinks. You don’t want to misoverestimate him. He’s not playing eleven-dimensional chess. He’s not even playing checkers. When he does try to obfuscate things with his obvious, absurd denials and contradictions, it’s reactive. He’s a guy at the beach trying to swat the bees away. If he were an evil genius things would have gone differently for the past year.

Yes, Donald Trump’s attempts to obfuscate the Russia collusion story (the most explosive political scandal in ???, the defining everything of his presidency) is to say, so help me god, I quote:

You are not alone. I feel certain that there are millions of Americans, myself include, who feel the same way, and have felt so since January 20.
What more will Trump do before the vast majority of Americans realize that Donald Trump is the absolute worst President one could ever imagine. And not only the worst, but very possibly the most dangerous. He is single-handedly destroying the international respect the U.S. has enjoyed for over two centuries, not to mention the respect and loyalty of many of our own citizens.
Trump must resign or be removed before the damage becomes irreversible.

Super smart geniuses should use 5 dollar words like “natural disaster-stricken, politically corrupt, poverty-stricken, disease-ridden, stripped of their wealth by foreign corporations”. Maybe Wharton political science lumps these all under the definition “Shithole”.

Yeah. It’s not the perfect-crime frameup from your high-end murder mysteries where the evil geniuses are thick on the ground. It’s more like dad comes in the kitchen and there’s little Donnie and a smashed cookie jar, and little Hillary walks in and Donnie points and says “She did it!” It’s fucking pathetic, to put it bluntly. He got elected because he resonated with dopes, and the other candidates thought they’d be clever and let him chew everyone else but them up first. Then he got the nom and the GOP normals fell into line. That’s it. He’s got a certain sense for weakness, but so do many dogs. That doesn’t make them evil geniuses.

But what happens when the content of what “people are thinking” is so absolutely wrong and off base? Trump is a monumental ignoramus–“Africa” is not a “country” but a continent that hosts 54 different nations. Plus I am imagining that the type of “Norwegian” he would favor admitting would be Anders Breivik.

I’m curious as to how he plans to answer to Botswana. Botswana is not an economic powerhouse but it is a stable and reasonably safe place (other than hippos and giraffes periodically carving up tourists). In fact, the state department discussion of the security section warns you carefully about getting too close to the wildlife. (The locals know better.)

I was embarrassed by W but so very proud in Nov 2008. Right now I’ve reached a level of embarrassment by my own country that’s only grown since Nov 9, 2016.
@caltg - I sometimes wonder who in our government will step up and remove him using, shall we say, less conventional methods. He is escalating the danger to our military and IC around the globe. There is a point of no return…

The Problem here is that it isn’t just Trump. There is 36% of the population who don’t have a problem, along with our GOP leaders.
This may come to.an end when we all suffer the results.
We have made many jokes at what we think is at Trumps expense, but in the end it is at our own expense.
