Armed, experienced, on-site officer got there fast, probably prompted the suspect to shoot himself, and fired a shot that probably would have disarmed the suspect if he hadn’t already started the process of de-braining himself.
It couldn’t have gone much better, yet…a shooter with a semi automatic mass homicide device and the desire to get a high body count would have been able to shoot dozens of rounds before the officer encountered him and may well have killed the officer and gone on shooting.
And, no, you sick NRA fucks, the answer is not more officers with body armor and their own military weapons.
Agreed that this went about as well as a confrontation could realistically go. However I took this to mean the resource officer aimed at the perpetrators head and missed, hitting the gun he was coincidentally holding up in the act of shooting himself. No one shoots a gun out of someone’s hand on purpose, of course (I know you weren’t suggesting this either). My broader, garbled point is that even though this ended about as well as it could have, it could very easily have ended with the resource officer being shot instead, which is the problem with “good guy with a gun” narratives.
… and Wayne LaPierre got another notch.
