Whenever some wingnut starts in about Bill Clinton, just say “Hastert” and walk away.
Monica was well over 21 and was quite the willing participant.
Denny Hastert is only the latest GOoPer to be ensnared in the oldest of Republican maneuvers: “The Coverup.” I can recall when ardent Nixon supporters derided the Watergate investigation as a “witch-hunt.” The same was said of the Iran-Contra Affair. Well Denny-boy, this is no “witch-hunt.”
Perhaps there should be no statute of limitations on sex crimes against minors. It’s crazy that Hastert won’t truly be held accountable for his actions, while his victims have received life sentences.
What a fucking monster. Why hasn’t he committed suicide yet? Does he really think doing six months and retiring with his wife and grandchildren is going to work for him? I think he’s ruined enough lives already.
Shattered Gavel? Sounds like the beginning of a Lifetime movie.
Prisoners with “short eyes” don’t do well in the general population. I doubt that many others will even see him. He’s disgraced forever, though, as he should be.
Hey! Come to think of it, we haven’t heard a peep from Mark Foley about Denny’s Dilemma. Gosh, I wonder why???
So the former Republican speaker of the house was a predatory homosexual who preyed on young boys? Where’s the outrage?
We on the left are outraged. I’m guessing Hastert holds others’ secrets as his playing cards so that many in the GOP will keep their mouths shut.
Exactly. That “Wide Stance” Larry Craig comes to mind. He liked to hang out in a certain bar in Denver, too, before he got busted in Minneapolis.
Although the statute of limitations has run out on the admitted abuse offenses, the judge should have taken them into account when deciding whether to accept the plea deal. Hastert needs to do serious time for those sins, because he not only committed them, but tried to cover them up while hypocritically pointing moralistic fingers at others.
While there really is no excuse for this type of behavior, I think it would behoove Lefties to show some compassion instead of doing exactly what Righties do. There is always a long backstory to these types of incidents. For example, many abusers are themselves victims of abuse. It may be more fruitful to understand the dynamic in these situations rather than attempting to turn it into a political bludgeon. Just sayin’
I won’t disagree with your post. It’s true that many (most?) serial abusers were abused in their youth – and if that is the case with Denny Hastert, it would be good for him and his victims to come to terms with that. That said, most abusers who were themselves abused don’t go on to wield such power that Hastert has – and to use that power to hurt others with their holier-than-thou pro-family garbage. That said, your point is well taken; Hastert is still a human worthy of help if he needs it. For his sake, I hope he reaches out for that help. I also very much hope that his surviving victims will reach out for and receive that help.
If capital punishment was the sentence for hypocrisy, conservatism would cease to exist in the US.
Yes. I have my doubts that he will attempt to be honest about what happened, but I was making a general observation about abusive situations. Certainly, it is repugnant that anyone would sustain such an abomination as the former speaker. It is just a really charged example and one where much could be learned and clarified. Many believe that we already know it all, unfortunately these situations continue to disrupt many lives.
