Discussion for article #226578
I’m sorry but, what the hell do Chris Christie and Hillary Clinton have to do with the Ferguson tragedy? Does every politician in the Country have to chime in on this? We have enough people screaming about what happened already.
Actually yes, prominent white people should be speaking out about this en masse if possible. There are a lot of people screaming for sure but most people are being ignored. It won’t be until there is enough white outrage that things will change.
This tragedy is not fodder for presidential candidates, so Rev Al, with all due respect, should STFU. The president spoke about it, he’s the leader of his party and the country, and that’s enough. Pretty soon every two-bit tinhorn from Iowa and Texas and elsewhere will feel entitled to weight in because Rev Al is calling on two particular people, and why not them…
Unfortunately white people who only think they’re prominent, I’m thinking of the Kings and Bachmanns and other bigots, will be speaking out too, and it won’t be in support of civil rights and fair treatment of African Americans by police. They’ll use their microphones for insults with a complete lack of compassion for the Brown family. Rev Al has no standing to encourage everyone within the sound of his voice to speak out.
I disagree, Racist white people like those you mentioned are already having their say all over Fox News. Al Sharpton isn’t saying anything out of line
Hillary will release a statement right after polling finishes of Thursday night.
And watch and see how the media willingly gives Bachmann, King and Palin the soapbox to spread their hate.
Hillary is a private citizen and Chris Christie is Governor of New Jersey. I like Al Sharpton generally but sometimes he’s just over-the-top with his comments.
No need to be sorry. You’re absolutely correct.
The right-wing media will give the people you named a soapbox to spread their particular brand of hatred and vile comments. People in the reality-based world can find out the truth about this tragedy, but Rev Al is an advocate for the family and for the black community so he’s advocating for more enlightened discussion. But in this overheated climate, it could go off the rails very easily. Haters are gonna hate.
We’ve been on a short vacation, but I have been keeping up with this…
The statements have been changing on a daily basis. The biggest issue here is the lack of info/or deliberate obfuscation from the Ferguson police department. Everyone is able to fill in blanks depending on one’s prejudices about the two major actors, one, sadly, dead.
I’ve read plenty of comments here and read about the other side elsewhere. I have my own opinion right now, but I’m not in the running for POTUS (is Christie?!)
Until we have some semblance of true, verifiable events, why would either of those two say anything?
.
I guess it’s all the way you see it. I am sure both of them are worrying about muddying up their white voter in 2016 to go out on a limb and condemn the murder of an unarmed black teenager for the umpteenth time.
I don’t watch Sharpton’s show, but I saw him speak in Ferguson shortly after this happened, and it was a powerful, smart speech. He can sometimes be a little too “we got ya” for my taste, but the way he handled that crowd was very impressive.
Well, after being in NYC during Al Sharpton’s stewardship of the Tawana Brawley matter I would not heed Sharpton’s call to get involve.
“they forfeit their right to be taken seriously”.
Tawana Brawley, Al.
Shut up, “Reverend.” Or ask Tawana Brawley what she thinks. Every time this creep pops up Democrats lose more voters.
Sharpton wants to fight this on race alone, such is not the case. The big underlying issues are jobs and education, issues which Sharpton has lost his credibility in the Black community.
I don’t understand your comment as it pertains to this article. Your comment is little more than: “I don’t like Al Sharpton”.
You said:
“Sharpton wants to fight this on race alone, such is not the case. The big underlying issues are jobs and education”
Now, elaborate. How does these underlying issues of jobs and education help “fight this” situation, right now?
Long before the Tawana Brawley crisis peaked, the cracks in her story were obvious to all. Sharpton could not back down & come clean. If he ever recanted any of it, I missed it. Sharpton forfeited his right to pontificate about anything long ago. He is an opportunist.
