Discussion: Sessions Throws Cold Water On GOP Fever To Appoint New Special Counsel

Does anyone have any idea what the conversation between Sessions and the pro-investigation GOP congress is actually about? Why is Sessions suddenly revering facts and evidence? Why would Congress be fighting him on it?

I donā€™t think Sessions has any zeal to go after Clinton. His focus is on race relations.

His focus is on race relations.

Or lack thereofā€¦

We really are living in a topsy-turvy world when Sessions is doing the right an honorable thing! Am I missing something?

At his confirmation hearing in January sessions reclused himself from any future investigation involving uranium 1 and the clintons. I guess Jones the meat head forgot that partā€¦

His reclusing himself in January AND saying he wont open a 2nd investigation of the clintons must be erking the orange one big timeā€¦b/c heā€™s wants so bad to get rid of sessionsā€¦oh the dramaā€¦

Jordan said it looks like the dossier was used to justify a FISA warrant against Manafort. The problem is Manafort had been the subject of a FISA warrant long before the dossier.

The question is whether the Keebler elf is actually exercising a smidgeon of integrity or whether heā€™s playing to the cameras and pretending he has a smidgeon of integrity.

There is a very specific set of reasons why Sessions is staying right where he is: recused from TrumpRussia, but declining either to resign (despite DJTā€™s constant humiliation of him) or to run for his old Alabama seat (despite McConnellā€™s machinations). There are very. specific. reasons.

Well, looks like Sessions barely avoided the banana bread republic label.

You know, the banana republic full of nuts.

My best guess is that Sessions knows thatā€™s a dead end and is trying to politely and covertly persuade them to better spend their distraction efforts elsewhere.

Sessions is in a major squeeze. Trump is tweating, and the republicans are baying, yet there is absolutely nothing to investigate. The uranium deal is a breitbart fiction, now pushed by FOX news (with an unhelpful assist by the NYT). The truth is that a russian company bought a canadian company, which has 20% of the Uranium mining capacity in the US. Yet, the US actively produces almost no Uranium (it is nearly all mined in Kazakastan). And by the way, none of this capacity (currently the canadian company is producing almost no uranium in the US) can be exported in any event. Its a fake story, pushed by ignorent people

And the Clinton stuff is nebulous and there is no evidence of any quid pro quo, and in any event, that would not be illegal unless it was direct as the US Supreme Courtā€™s McDonnell decision

Sessions knows there is nothing to investigate, and has been told this by the DOJ line staff.

If sessions were to appoint a special prosecutor, it would be challenged in court, and he might loose, and his reputation (what little was left) would be destroyed, and my guess is that people in DOJ would resign. And fast forward a year, the house would impeach him, and its possible if he abused his office for political prosecutions that a future administration would prosecute him, or perhaps a state could prosecute him. People would also challenge his law license.

Nothing to gain, and much too lose if Sessions is connected in any way - when he is purportedly recused from - going after Clinton. He just wants to look interested enough to keep the dotard off his tail.

p.s. a good backgrounder on the fake Uranium One story is here: http://www.factcheck.org/2017/10/facts-uranium-one/

The key to cracking this whole Clinton-Kills-Babies-With-Russian-Uranium operation lies in Comet Ping Pong.

If we could just get federal investigators inside that basementā€¦

Hereā€™s Witteā€™s leftcoaster posted last night.

Best Case Scenario:

1 / Session puts the slow-walk on this ā€œinvestigation,ā€ which upsets Trump, who fires him.
2 / This happens after Sessions misses the window to get his old Senatorial seat back.
3 / Sessions becomes upset enough to turn Federal Witness for Mueller and suddenly remembers collusive behavior with Putin, et alia.
4 / He motivates Jared to do same, who in Shakespearean fashion agrees.
5 / After The Fall of Trump (and the dopey sons) they go into business together and save Jaredā€™s building.

Yes. Part of Wittesā€™ tweets appear in the Daily Intelligencerā€™s article on this story from last night:

Benjamin Wittes, the editor-in-chief of the Lawfare blog, offered another possible explanation: The letter is merely meant to lay the groundwork for the DOJ to tell Goodlatte that they will not be investigating various conspiracy theories popular on the right.

Hereā€™s the link to the whole article: Sessions Tells DOJ to ā€˜Evaluateā€™ Call for New Clinton Probes

When asked about legislators during his time as Speaker, John Bonerā€¦I mean, Boehner, had this to say about Jordan and Jason Chaffetz of Utah:

ā€œFuck Jordan. Fuck Chaffetz. Theyā€™re both assholes,ā€ Boehner told
Politico.

That pretty much sums it up.
