Haven’t read it myself but Fallows tends not to waste his time. If he thinks there’s something there he’s probably right.

That fossil is the opposite of “fresh”.

Uh yeah, phrasing. Fresh blood sounds like something Peter Thiel would be calling for.

Yeah but I think we’re aware that Obama isn’t a vampire so we take it differently when he says it.

Unlike Thiel who wants to be a vampire. hahahahahahahahaha

Not to mention that the Presidency is not the only leadership position we have. We need fresh blood at entry-level positions, too!

I think this is an over-reading, absolutely.

That said, I definitely agree with the sentiment. Biden was born in late 1942 and will be 78 years old (!!!) on Inauguration Day, 2021. That beats the oldest President at inauguration (the current Dotard in Chief) by 8 years! He would be older at inauguration than any President has ever been at the end of their presidency!!!

If you look at the progression, going from Donald Trump (born 1946) from Obama (born 1961) was a nearly unprecedented reversion (15 years older). Previous reversions were to Reagan (23 years older), Johnson (9 years older), then all the way back to Buchanan (13 years older) and then Taylor (11 years older) and Harrison (9 years older and lasted only 30.5 days in office). All of these examples had age-related infirmities that impacted their Presidencies.

Having two age reversions in a row would be unprecedented, would lead to the oldest President in history, and would say a lot about our country.

We need to look forward to a new generation. Great Democratic Presidents are always young and vibrant. Leave the old “save me Grandpa” sentiments to Republicans. We need strong, progressive leadership, and a President who will have the energy to stand up to the physical needs of the office without losing his health and mind while in office. From a strictly election-based perspective, we need a strong contrast to Trump’s age and infirmity.

I’d like to see Barack become sort of an “honest broker” among all the potential Dem candidates. He could meet with all of them as a group and/or individually, and maybe moderate a few debates. the essence of his effort would be to keep the party united, focused, and willing to hear all views. This is a perfect task for Barack given his background not only as President, but as a community organizer.
