Discussion: Senators In Both Parties Call For Ethics Probe Of Franken Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Beats the heck out of asking him to step down outright. He was a lout but as of now he didn’t break any laws.

HAHAHAHA,

If true Franklin will be forced to resign, Thomas will still be a supreme court judge, Trump will still be president. This is why Democrats loose, hypocrisy does’t hurt republicans!

Absolutely. And I think I may have been unduly worried, seeing now that he’s calling for the investigation to go forward himself. He’d be lying low if Tweeden’s claims were really threatening. I tend to believe him that the kiss may not be what she’s claiming, and that this may come out.

Then again, I always suspected that the GOP was behind some of Bill Clinton’s accusers. Franken’s a thorn in their side and they are never ever above dirty tricks.

I have no doubt Ms. Birther will prove to be 100% credible and that there will be no reason to believe she’s willing to lie for political and/or personal gain. Video included…

As much as I have applauded Al Franken’s work in the Senate and his unflinching stance against the party of trump I do not see any good way for him to survive this and still remain effective. To put it bluntly this will end his Senate career. The gop will scream hypocrisy with Roy Moore still in the crosshairs, and they will be right. I am not saying that both men’s misconduct is equally bad, but that is besides the point. Politics is a rough business and that photo is a career killer.

Obviously with the balance of the Senate being so close this is terrible news for the Dems who were poised to make inroads there with Moore’s troubles. That chance now seems lost. Dammit!

The Dems cannot have this hanging over their heads going into the midterms. The stakes are too high. My questions now are focused on ensuring the Dems retain his seat. I admit I am not sure of the mechanics involved if Al steps step down. I think a special election is how it is done but am not sure.

Sorry Al, I like you and your politics but you have to go.

After all of the sordid misbehaviors and the screaming headlines of recent weeks you would think the headline writes would have their shit together by now. OK, I admit, freely here, to being a little older. My generation had slang that apparently has been missed COMPLETELY by a younger generation of “sports headline writers” over at www.http.cnn.com. I submit the following:

You can actually learn to ball like Steph Curry

To me the word “ball” in context like that has a completely different meaning than basketball…

I disagree completely. Not only is there no evidence of the alleged groping, but he has denied the accusations about the kissing and has invited an ethics investigation. Let it be an example. Let process take place and let the veracity of the accusations and any denials be tested.

There were obviously people in the room…one taking the picture (which shows him NOT touching her), one next to her and maybe others. What do they have to say about what they clearly bore witness to? The accuser is a RWNJ who was willing to promote the birther conspiracy nonsense for political gain. How credible is she really? Franken invites this scrutiny and he should. Accusations are not convictions and we can’t let them be. The process should play out and, hopefully, do so in a way that gives people, particularly women, confidence that the process works. Some may be looking for a scalp, true, but if the process shows she’s full of shit, I’m betting you I know some women who will be far FAR angrier at Tweeden for that than I will be.

Rolling over on this is bullshit. No fucking way should we be establishing that the side who is suffering someone being credibly accused can dig up an exaggerated fake accusation to “balance things out”.

Of note: she specifically denied that she wants an ethics investigation. Why is she not asking for one while Franken is?

I’ll tell you why: (a) first, and most importantly, is because Franken has the integrity to submit to the process and admit to whatever he has done wrong, but wants an appropriate opportunity to defend himself…and playing press conference games in the MSM isn’t that opportunity for him…and (b) second, because he knows she’s exaggerating and wants it made perfectly clear that while his jokes were disrespectful, insensitive and childish, he never sexually assaulted anyone.

They still are. Broaddrick has become a total staple of the Faux News website since the Ailes, O’Reilly and Bolling shit broke.

So far what I’m seeing is a photo of a tasteless gag, no contact I can see, and an accusation of a grope, seen by no one else, of a sleeping woman who happens to have been a conservative contributor of Fox News. I’m underwhelmed.

Ok Mitch and Chuck, we’ll trade you one franken for one trump … and all hail harvey weinstein who has surely done more than all the public figures could ever hope for concerning this under the table issue. Now a word from our sponcers at Pfizer who bring us good stuff like Viagra.

Coverage of this is ridiculous. My tax bill just went up $1000-2000 due to House passage of “tax reform” and nobody looks.
Yes, “Women should be able to feel safe and free in their workplace", but the non-groping non-assault during a comedy rehearsal story is much more important.

That’s good to know. Thanks. I don’t watch any news programs, and no right wing crapola reporting for sure, so I didn’t know she’s making the circuit.

They’d better investigate TRUMP also. He has SIXTEEN accusers and a taped admission of his disgusting behavior, not just one.

If we are trying to hold repugs to a certain standard, then we’d better meet that standard ourselves.

If they investigate Franken they’d better investigate “president” T-Rump.

Despite the person in the chair next to her and the person holding the camera and maybe other people all being in the room. “You know, we all had a good laugh focusing intently on Al’s tasteless joke of pretending to touch her breasts, but then poof, we all just magically saw nothing while he actually touched her.”

I don’t agree. The GOP is rarely, if ever, right. They equate something adults did with what a pedophile did. Repeatedly.

I’m uncomfortable with absolutism, and zero tolerance. The Moore thing was questionable until more and more people came forward and other evidence of his disgusting behavior came to light.

That stupid picture is really evidence of nothing, except tacky and tasteless juvenile behavior by men. I’m doubt that it went any further than that. The kissing business, I have no clue, but given her membership in the GOP/ Tea Party/Breitbard wing I have serious questions as to her veracity. Let’s get a little more evidence before we trash one of the most effective Senators we have in Congress, okay?

And FFS, why are the Dems not leveraging this into “probes” of Trump for what he’s been alleged to have done…or SESSIONS FOR HIS DEMONSTRABLE PERJURY?

I have no idea whether Sen. Franken assaulted this woman or not, but this picture DOES NOT SHOW THAT. There are shadows from his fingers on her chest. That indicates that there is no contact. As a comedian, he might well “pretend” to grab her in this way. I do not think pretending constitutes assault, but I could be wrong.

Because 1. They’re focused on the tax bill; and 2. Democratic exemplary behavior never provides any kind of leverage with republicans.
