Discussion: Senators Ask For Briefing From FBI, DOJ On Events Surrounding Flynn Resignation

I know these are serious times but it’s difficult for me to not think of Eric Cartmen when I see the word “probe.”

As with Trump using the word ‘leak’

Question a journalist could pose to an administration official:

“You assert the larger, more important issue at hand is the leak of information from those within government. Which would you contend in the midst of the Watergate episode was the more troubling issue, people inside government feeding Woodward and Bernstein information, or the crimes by administration officials that information revealed?”

Standard GOP orthodoxy, back then and still today, is the Deep Throat leaks were the real evil.

The reality is much simpler to follow…If it hurts a republican, its bad. If it hurts a Democrat, its good. They make no pretense of consistency or any moral stance beyond that. I mean, its literally being played out right before us.

Investigate the hacks into the DNC and the Clinton campaign? Naa…Investigate confirmed reports that Trumpers were facilitating and working to make those hacks happen? Why bother?..But we will investigate why those confirmed reports came out! That hurts us!!

This is really excellent. So far Burr on Intelligence and now Grassley on Judiciary have decided to do their duty. Thank you.

My concern is will these hearings be public? The briefing? Will we get to hear any of that? Who has the power to declassify the transcripts? Not Congress, I think that falls to the executive branch. That’s a dead end.

I think McCain, Graham, Corker are right. There has to be a special select committee that will hold public hearings. Things have gone way too far to just cover this whole investigation and fact finding in secret (called closed door sessions). That means McConnell needs to be onboard, his wife works for Trump at DOT. Can he recuse himself because of that? I’m so confused.

What is the way forward?

[/quote]I can’t get over Jason’s probes or Jason probes for Chaffetz.

But again, the fact that the Senate is moving forward with some sort of investigations, just makes Chaffetz’s decision to NOT investigate the matter, but instead only focus on why the leaks happened very puzzling.

Quite frankly, if Chaffetz wants to investigate the mishandling of intelligence, then he should be digging deeper into Flynn’s and others communications. The timing of a major US Asset being caught by the Russians and now about to be executed for treason should be a MAJOR issue…but its largely being ignored.

Its setting up an extremely awkward and bizarre possibility. Chaffetz may end up investigating Grassley or Corker’s investigation, since they will be interviewing intelligence officials, who will be revealing information to them.

So how does THAT get resolved??

Anybody want to bet they’ll find it unnecessary to subpoena Sally Yates?

They have turned on a dime. MSNBC has a mix tape of all the “I love the FBI” “I love WIkiLeaks” comments. Those were about bringing transparency to the process. These leaks are about destroying the national security of the country. The hypocrisy is so blatant as to be absurd.

Is the Trump presidency an Andy Kaufman stunt, the whole thing? Maybe it’s Dada meets Chris Burden? I’m at a complete loss.

Trump’s stage antics remind me a bit of Sam Kinison.

Here’s one that’s right down your alley, Eustace. It’s a letter to the New York Times written by the psychiatrist who wrote the criteria for the clinical diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Enjoy.

Correction, it is not the Senators asking for this, it is American citizens asking for it.

The Senators work for US, a fact that often seems to be lost on them.

Yeah- it turns out he’s just an asshole. Excuse me- the bigliest asshole. I still think it’s NPD, though.

The Republicans have been about destroying the government at all costs now since 1994. Before that, they had some limits to what they would and would not touch, but then, once Gingrich got into power, they went out full tilt to do whatever they could to destroy the government not realizing that many of the institutions that they were going after ensured the security, safety and stability of the nation as a whole. One of my favorite examples is the FDA. The FDA keeps food companies from putting toxins in our foods and stops them from using bad ingredients. Back when the FDA was created, it was possible for the wealthy to pretty much avoid the risks of bad foods because they could afford to buy really good, clean foods. Today, the rich are buying (mostly) many of the same things the poor are. Often times the only difference between the $1.50 jar of peanut butter bought at Aldi and the $5.00 a jar from Price Chopper is the brand name. They difference is in who distributes, not in the actual product, which may actually be manufactured by the same people. Or take the actual drugs issues…rich people have to buy the same drugs as the rest of us. If they’re impure, they could die. The world has changed a lot since the FDA was created and the rich can’t avoid many of the things that used to send the poor to the grave in droves.

Sorry, I know this seems complex. The other thing is that many of the things that the GOP wants to get rid of are vital for the function of the modern economy, and these schmucks think that going back to how things were in the late 1800’s will be a winning formula. Basically, they want power above all and don’t realize that they’re going to derail the economy.

Well said. They should move to Somalia, which looks like an ideal state for them.

Another question to ask:

“During and after the presidential campaign, it was suggested by numerous Republican lawmakers that while the DNC hacks may have been illegal, they were ultimately good because they exposed the malfeasance of the Clinton campaign. Does the same metric apply here?”

That question should be asked of KAC at every appearance from today forward.
