Discussion: Senate Votes To Confirm Sessions As Trump's Attorney General

We overcome this with determination and work. Whatever obstacles they put in the way, we overcome them and vote. We vote. Fuck them. We vote.

Shit.

One part of the solution to that: due to the level of resistance trump and the GOP are getting, people in red states that normally sit on the sidelines will vote in high enough numbers to override the hijinks sessions will enable. It’s not enough on its own, of course - or rather, we need to work hard to help that happen.

But, yeah, that’s my hope.

Don’t worry - I don’t feel better. Cursing at them is just a momentary coping mechanism.

By the way, the hypocrisy of the GOP as demonstrated by the vote discussed in the article you quote is breathtaking. The GOP is supposedly taking years off their lives by running around and worrying about the integrity of elections. So what do they do? The vote to get rid of something that helps ensure the integrity of elections, an action that on the surface makes them appear almost trumpian in their intelligence.

Of course, we both know that what they’re really worried about is legitimately losing elections. So it makes sense they’d go out and try to make it easier to win by cheating.

Done and done. Welcome to the 1950’s America. Oh, and Manchin…go fuck yourself! However, W. Virginia bigots still love your sorry ass…we know.

Your post’s brought tears to my eyes.

I fight, I resist, but I brace for long, hard, brutal days ahead. As a minority woman optimism is hard to come by now. Don’t blame me. It’s just hard.

What choices?

Well now, you bring up an interesting point.

Dems in Red states could potentially find their votes, uh, diminished in some way. If we go with that assumption, then would that encourage the Democratic Party to move more toward the right in order to counter the (potentially) smaller Dem vote?

ā€œShitā€ you uttered upthread. Look no further, that’s the correct answer.

You know, somehow I can’t see Jay Rockefeller ever voting to confirm this retrograde bigot if he were still in the Senate, so you know Manchin is in total sympatico with Sessions to some degree, which is just fucking awful.

Now you’ve got old Ralphie crying. I don’t know what to say. We must all put our hands to the plough and not look back.

He’s gone come 2018. WVA has no reason to keep him in his seat as he isn’t quite rabid enough for the feral trumpers.

I am just so sick at heart about all this. Devos and now Sessions….it does not get much worse.

My point exactly.

I’m not suggesting for a moment that we simply give up but starting right now, Dem strategy has to be very imaginative . I get so tired of hearing Dems say that we need to go out and register people for elections. Look, registering people only goes but so far if a.) your ID isn’t considered to be valid for voting OR b.) there’s literally no where to vote for 10 miles. Somehow, we need to create new ways of working around the system that Sessions et al. will create.

He seems intent on selling the rubes in his state on the fiction of clean coal. Maybe they’re dumb enough to want to believe that’s their only salvation, but its simply not gonna happen. I know he was their governor and was well liked as such, but he’s really running out of rope in the Democratic party from all I can tell. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like him switched parties to save his job in gov’t if that’s what it took.
