He isn’t confirmed yet. Flood the Senators with phone calls. Drown 'em!
Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121
Sure is amazing that all I get is a busy signal…
Even while announcing his support for Tillerson, Rubio laid out a series of concerns in his statement Monday.
That you voted for him makes any of your “concerns” worthless.
I don’t mean to be defeatist, but Tillerson is going to be confirmed regardless. The Turtle already announced that they were going to hold a full Senate vote regardless of what the committee voted.
One question now is how long Tillerson, who was by any measure a highly successful executive of an international company with more economic and practical power than many countries and who is used to having the final word on everything, will be able to bring himself to take orders from Trump.
Graham, McCain and Rubio had a chance to stand up and prove they put country before party and they failed to do so.
Let’s send them some bright PussyHats…
My question is: how is Tillerson, who has no diplomatic / government experience going to handle international crises. Like say, oh, when Israel decides it’s not taking any guff from Iran and pulls this country into another ME war. Or when Putin decides to reclaim Russia’s natural borders, is he gonna look like he wants nothing to do with dealing with the situation?
Slightly OT: Can someone tell me why Tillerson was nominated for SoS and not US Ambassador to Russia?
Trump will be taking orders from Tillerson.
Find your Senator’s phone number. I’ve gotten through every time I’ve called directly. It’s kind of scary, I sorta know the aides by name now.
No idea, except that apparently Condi Rice and Bob Gates, and maybe some other Repubs, recommended him. I have hope that Tillerson will be better than Giuliani or Newt would have been. He does have substantial experience with risk assessment and with negotiating with foreign leaders, as that is a big part of what senior execs of large international oil companies do. Whether he can adapt to doing that on the part of the US and its people as a whole rather than for the interests of Exxon Mobil is yet another question.
Edited to add: But yeah, Tillerson is going to be all for getting rid of sanctions on Russia, because that is the only way Exxon Mobil can develop the acreage it has under contract in its deals with Russian national oil companies.
Rubio said that despite serious reservations about Tillerson, particularly over his views on Russia, he believed a president* was entitled to significant deference in assembling his Cabinet.
*= Democratic presidents need not apply.
There, fixed it for him - he forgot the bold… er, I mean, small print. Silly rubio - he must have been too busy kissing trump’s other ass cheek (after he licked the first one by voting for good ol’ Rex) to remember that part.
I’m shocked, shocked that Little Marko “Walkback” Rubio taked big and then fell meekly into line. When has this ever happened before?
And Trump is blowing his mouth about taking Iraq’s oil while our troops are still there. Smart move asshole-in-chief. And this Tillerson turd is an Exxon junkie.
He’d better hope Iraq doesn’t gather up all our troops and hold them hostage.
We are all so fucked.
He doesn’t just drink it … He carries it also –
Rachel Maddow just made an excellent point. Trump again repeated, when he visited the CIA, that the US should have taken Iraq’s oil when it invaded but maybe we’ll “get another chance,” and Spicer refused to say that the US will not steal oil from other countries because Trump doesn’t want to “take anything off the table” or telegraph what it will do (even though pillaging resources is a war crime, but whatever). What a great way to turn other countries who are currently working with us to fight ISIS against us and make our allies fundamentally distrust our motives in using military force. Appointing the guy who was a CEO of the largest oil company in the world until a couple of weeks ago to run our foreign policy only adds fuel to the fire.
When it comes to the crunch Rubio always chokes.
I can only imagine the dismay of the few pros in the Clusterfuck Administration who cannot believe that Donald Trump puts his foot in his mouth every single time he opens it.
I find it impossible to believe that a conscientious stateswoman like Cuntaleeza Rice, an expert on the former Soviet Union, a former head of Chevron’s committee on public policy, and a *former namesake of a 129,000-ton, double-hulled, Bahamian-registered Chevron oil tanker, would recommend a newly former oil industry executive who brokered a $500 billion dollar deal with Vladimir Putin to exploit Russian oil reserves and was awarded Russia’s Order of Friendship for the sensitive position of Secretary of State. It just doesn’t make sense.
- The ship was rechristened Altair Voyager after a star with no
known links to the oil industry in 2001.
Well this call goes straight to the top: you will need to ask Vladimir directly!
