Discussion: Senate Narrowly Approves Brownback For Global Religious Freedom Job

Apparently there is no amount of failure that precludes a republican from failing upward.

For all those senators who voted to approve America’s craziest governor.

Maybe he’ll bring some of his nifty tax theories to the State Department. That’s innovation we can believe in!

The Senate did Kansas a big favor. What an opportunity, the chance to spread Christian bigotry worldwide and create another motivation for the rest of the world to hate and/or ignore the U.S. He will probably do serious harm to organized religion, which is a good thing IMHO.

“U.S. ambassador for international religious freedom”

In terms of practical impact on the larger world, this is a rung or two below being Ambassador to the Vatican.

In terms of practical impact on the state of Brownbackistan, the Senate confirmation is a first small step on its transition back to being Kansas.

Brownback was an early advocate of U.S. action to stop genocide in Sudan’s Darfur region, and visited Congo and Rwanda to decry humanitarian crises and call for better coordination in foreign aid programs.

Confirming once again the old saw about blind squirrels and acorns.

But would he have taken this action if a persecuted Christian minority had not been involved?

Let’s do a correction about his title.

He’s now our Ambassador for International Religious FreeDUMB!

Dear Mr. Brownback,

Please keep the Lighthouse people and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints folks away from my house. And tell them to quit leaving their pamphlets in my door.

Thanks. Keep up the good work so I can experience freedom from these religious intrusions.

Your friend,
Rick

Another tiebreaker by Pence… when he is not a doorstop.

All hail ayatollah Brownback.

It is well known fact that the gov 's policies nearly cratered the KS ECONOMY…so why not unleash the same incompetence on an international body…the most curious aspect of it all is that the Republican drones march in lockstop to approve a dunce for the position. Our current government is so clearly broken.

Oh, but Brownstain isn’t done with the Sunflower State yet. In the State of the State address last night, he called for a $600M increase in school funding (NPR story I caught the tail end of and so the number isn’t certain), but proposed no funding mechanism.

In fact, according to the Wichita Eagle-Beacon, Brownstain warned the Legislature not to roll back his 0% tax rate for LLCs, claiming that, “Kansas is the envy of the world”. Aside from having fucked the revenue system, he cited Kansas’ “incredible sunsets” as another reason. (Just for the record, I lived in Kansas for 11 years, and in New Mexico and California and Hawaii for more than that. Kansas has okay sunsets. No place on earth has sunsets like New Mexico, though. A ho-hum New Mexico sunset would have people in Ohio agog.)

So, I guess he’s proposing to cut taxes further to stimulate more growth to pay for that increase in education funding. Pay no attention to the near $1B deficit projected for the remainder of this fiscal year and next.

Kansas State University should recall this idiot’s bachelor’s degree.

Unfortunately, Torquemada was no longer available for the job, so they picked Brownback.

To paraphrase The Blues Brothers:

Q: “Say, just what kind of Religion do you have here in the United States of America?”
Brownback: “Why, we have BOTH Kinds! Evangelical Prosperity Gospel AND Southern Baptist!”

I’m also a two-time K-Stater. In fact, I was there when Brownstain was – to quote Garfunkel and Oates, Brownback took a turn for the douche (NSFW – put on your headphones/earphones!). He wasn’t insane when he was ASKSU President. If memory serves, he got a fee increase approved to fund a new student recreation center. Imagine that – Brownback involved in a tax increase.

And, Torquemada was Catholic, and even though conservative Catholics have found common political cause with the fake Segregationist Religious Pretext Movements, they are not favored, Newt Gingrich’s conversion notwithstanding.

The other great story line here is that in just one year of Trump Administration Putin’s award winner and hand picked choice for Secretary of State has jettisoned all sitting US Ambassadors, has decimated the ranks of upper and mid level State Dept professionals with all their accumulated experience and is doing nothing to replace them. However, this joke of a Senator and Governor, this ideologue, is appointed to fill a global ambassadorship for international religious freedom by an Administration that has expressed its intentions of banning immigration of Muslims and people of color.

TPM also reported years ago that Brownback participated in the religious coronation of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, on federal property, no less.
