The Republicans are really being short sighted.
They seem to be saying that they have to pass a tax bill or they will be hurt at the polls if they have done nothing.
What they fail to see is that if they do nothing except propose a horrible tax bill…this crazy tax bill will be what they are known for.
They better hope it fails!!! If the only thing they can pass is lowering taxes for the wealthy at the expense of everyone else and at the expense of health care…this is a calamity for the Republicans that would be much worse than doing nothing for them,.

Not sure that this is true but Redstate is reporting
McConnell and others in Republican leadership, including South Dakota Senator John Thune said there has been a whip count and the numbers are there to pass the tax bill with the individual mandate repeal.

My assumption is that he sees two positives to adding the mandate repeal:
- Trumpp gets partial ownership of the bill’s failure
- A lot of Democratic senators are on the record voting for the mandate and against tax cuts.
