The take-away seems to be that Trump, Jr. was perfectly willing to collude with the Russians to receive compromising information about Clinton, but the Russians didn’t come to the table with anything and instead wanted to talk about the Maginsky Act.
It looks so far like the Russians were going around telling people in Trump’s orbit that they had dirt on Clinton – intimating, it seems, that they had accessed her infamous private server (remember Trump suggesting out lout at a rally that they release the 33,000 Clinton emails), but all they really had were the DNC and Podesta emails and those didn’t really contain any bombshells. I’ve never seen any reporting that Clinton’s server was ever breached.
You’d almost feel sorry for the schmuck except that he turned out to be such a preening, greasy, easily-manipulated, hypocritical weasel, who cheated on his wife with a Fox bimbo. He can’t even do trump right. His pathetic attempts to earn daddy’s love just got them all deeper in trouble, like Giuliani’s bumbling attention-getting rants just expose trump to more charges.
This will all come out in the wash, this year, next year or the year after that, I suppose. Will we even have a democratic form of government by that time? I’ve got to hope we will.

The Senate Judiciary Committee headed by Chuck Grassley is a Joke. Grassley one of the many Partisan Hacks in the now Extreme Republican Party. Chuck Grassley knows that this is his last few months heading up the Judiciary Committee before Democrats retakes the House and Senate come this fall. I wouldn’t be able to start saying just how bad this man has been for Iowa and America, to him Party comes first before his own country.
Yes, this is my understanding too. More revelations about Russians shopping Clinton dirt have come out, so they were definitely dangling it out there - “it” being the DNC/Posdesta emails.
AFAIK, the FBI was able to determine that Clinton’s private server was never hacked, unlike the State Dept server which was hacked multiple times.
And, as you probably know, the 30K emails that were deleted were personal and irrelevant to work; all federal employees are asked to cleanse their personal emails from the record before they are archived to save space and resources. So, as usual, Clinton’ perfectly normal, legal, in fact required actions have been cast as crimes.
I hear Junior’s Opsec and tradecraft not exactly up to current best practices.

This video was recorded just after the meeting was scheduled but BEFORE it took place. Trump is clearly referring to what Jr expected to get from the meeting and Trump couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

No. My theory is the Russians conveyed 2 asks in that meeting: Frame Browder + lobby against the Magnitsky Act (I think the Russians viewed both asks as part of the same objective to remove the sanctions regime).
I think the Russian offer to the Trump campaign was: HRC dirt + laundered money to support election interference activities.
Junior is too stupid to understand the Russian ask, but he did comment on their offer of dirt. He didn’t like what they provided. He implicitly asked them to sharpen their pencils and do better.

The Trump Organization fed a prepared statement to a publicist for Russians involved in the notorious 2016 meeting at Trump Tower on what to tell the press about what was discussed, it emerged on Wednesday.
An attorney for the Trump family’s company urged the publicist in an email to endorse Donald Trump Jr’s version of events on the meeting and said it “would be our preference” if he did not say anything else in response to inquiries.
