Discussion: Senate Judiciary Committee Advances Bill To Protect Special Counsel Mueller

Obviously a stupid, ill-considered overreaction from Trump is called for here.

Looks like the Republican Leadership have once again worked out how to nominally appear like they’re a separate branch of government while still kneeling down and licking Trump’s boot.

Good doggy, good doggy! You’ll be rewarded with some public humiliation and denigration by your master now!

This puts the pressure on McConnell. It also sends a message to Trump. Don’t fire Mueller, you have already lost at least some Republican Senators.

Let’s see what Comrade McConnell does now. He says there’s no need for the bill, no need to to have a vote on it. So, is there a need not to, Mitch?

I really, really hate to say this, but (clenched teeth) Thank You, Senators Grassley, Graham, Flake, and Tillis…

I reluctantly support your temporary graciousness.

The occupant would have to sign this, but we know he’d veto it, so it’s imperative the Senate has a veto-proof margin in passing it. Do they?

We’ll see,…

While there is a procedure whereby Senators can force a floor vote over the obstruction of the majority leader, I’m not hopeful they will do so. Lining up the votes to do so would likely provoke McConnell to back down.

Even so, what are the odds this gets a vote in the House? At the very least, Democrats should work night and day to shame Ryan on this issue.

I just want to assure you it’s totally temporary. IMHO, the bill is more of a symbolic thing, that Dotard would never agree to, but it’s at least a hint of a GOP proto-spine developing.

McConnell won’t allow this to be voted on. He’ll take the heat and save fellow Republican senators from having to make a difficult decision/hard vote. It’s what all politicians fear most. Of course Sen Paul will demand a vote knowing it will never happen.

Not sure. But there is still the problem of the House to consider. They are considerably more loyal to Trump.

“Sweet Jeebus! What is THAT? A spine?!”

“Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said last week that he didn’t think such legislation was necessary and thus did not plan on bringing it up for full vote on the Senate floor.”

I guess it should be a comfort that the Senate. Judiciary. Committee is still willing to take a step towards protecting the rule of law.

Not to pick nits or anything, but shouldn’t they REALLY be working to protect Rod Rosenstein? I’m not being funny. Seriously, the Dotard cannot fire Mueller plain and simple. Can. Not.

What he CAN DO is fire Rod Rosenstein. So wouldn’t protecting Mr. Rosenstein be of paramount importance??? Or is it just me? :flushed:

oops, wrong thread. sorry!

Too much to ask for the nayers’ names?

The first step is for a bill to clear the committee; until that happened, it was not the Mock Turtle holding up progress. And the ruckus is worth creating, whatever happens next. At least the issue is being kept alive and lively with an amount of attention and uproar that has even Spanky running scared, at least for the moment.

Let’s hope Rosenstein and a few significant other officials are included in the penumbra of whatever publicity – or actual legislation – can provide by means of protection. Ultimately it does not even make much of a difference because from the looks of his legal team, the president has a fool for a client and the investigations will keep right on going in venues all around the country.

The worse news is that meanwhile the ship of state is rudderless, no one in charge, and the Night is coming. In fact, Dotard’s view is “Whoopee! Bring it on.” That’s the kind of pride the Greeks called “hubris,” using the word the Bible translates as “sin.”
