Discussion: Senate GOPers Release Details About Obama-Era Iran Deal Investigation

GOP-mendacious, untruthful mean unworthy of trust or belief. dishonest implies a willful perversion of truth in order to deceive, cheat, or defraud

But at the same time we’re screaming about the crap going on in the current administration, the whataboutisms for this will overshadow with the right. This might not have been a willful perversion of the truth, as this situation didn’t appear to make a difference in the end, but I can hear the screams from Hannity and company to lock Obama up over this, which is of course ridiculous.

This will take the news cycle for a day or two. It would be nice if Mueller would take some new action to remind the idiots in charge that he’s still out there, but I don’t have any confidence that even perp walks would make a difference at this point.

The report by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations revealed …

Where is this fine subcommitee in the investegation of the man who has betrayed America ,and who overtly lies to Americans over his crimes on a daily basis? Listen to Portrman on most subjects for a couple of minutes to understand he is a political hack…duplicitous and dangerous.

  1. Every other sentence in this article highlights what a non-story this is: it wasn’t illegal/in fact never happened and Obama’s comments weren’t lies they were refering to other rumored but false actions.
  2. Doesn’t matter for GOP supporters - I teach at a high school and had a student bring in three recent articles highlighting the SECRET horrible no-good back room deal Obama brokered with Iran that undermines the US…and that Trump is going to reveal…any…day…now…just…you…wait. And they really, really believe it.

If we use the current president’s logic, then there is no way President Obama could break the law because as chief executive he is above the law. Everything done, therefore, is legal because the Executive branch can’t act illegally and, if deemed to do so, he could pardon himself because that is his right. My hunch is that this confusing and illiterate logic will not be applied retroactively to other presidents.

oh okay, lets get obama’s name in this trump nightmare and as usual push blame elsewhere except right where it should be.
GOP = grifting over policy

Wow. This is what they’ve got? Do they know that we also draft plans for war with canada and the UK and france? (Never mind the fact that a temporary license to make a fleeting transaction in dollars is hardly “access to the US financial system” and, if anything, strengthens the US because it reinforces the dollar as the default exchange currency…)

The money was Iran’s. There was no payout or incentive. Our Government seized the money and many other Iranian assets during and after the Hostage Crisis, a crisis which the GOP and its Presidential Candidate Ronald Reagan took advantage of and colluded with the Khomeini Government to ensure their election and the continued captivity of the hostages until Reagan was sworn in. The money was compounding interest and eventually had to be returned to the Iranians. The oversight of the GOP, as always, applies retroactively to Democrats and the same rules do not apply to the present Administration and the Michael Cohen Grift LLC Pipeline we recently learned of.

Issuing the license was not illegal.

What happened was neither illegal or immoral and is just another distraction from Trump’s and his administration’s daily violations of those codes. The more I compare what Trump has done and is doing to what Hitler did in his rise to power, the more similarities I uncover.

Reagan taught that the best way to deal with Iran is to sell them weapons and hold U.S. hostages as a political favor.

Reactionary heads will be exploding about a legal thing that was contemplated but never happened while they ignore their own myriad, ongoing, and truly destructive crimes. Something about motes and planks, whatever they are, comes to mind.

This all sounds like “work product” which never came to fruition. Of course the Re-thugs will beat it to death in news media to say Obama “colluded” with Iran, even though this is not the case. And, of course the origin of these “details” came from Republican sources. – Really!!!

This is a catch-22 and even though by all accounts it was the right thing to do, the nature of US-Iran relations and the existence of sanctions make it such that there’s no way to do it without looking shady. The Republicans know full well the US was returning Iranian money that rightfully belonged to Iran, but they’ve been pretending all along it was some kind of bribe or slush fund. What they say doesn’t realy matter.

Just for detail, is the high school at which you teach above or below the Mason-Dixon line?

Issuing a legal limited license for a deal that was never done. Yea, Obama was a maniac. (Are you aware of the term “nit-picking”?)
