They can’t filibuster these types of appointments, but can they deny McConnell a quorum so a vote can’t take place?
“There is very little Senate Democrats can do at this point to actually defeat Trump’s cabinet nominees.”
They’re doing a great job of getting issues out there on public record at the very least.
Agree with this completely.
I said this a while ago: when the sh*t hits the fan and things start going downhill quickly, the public is going to start looking to the Dems to find out why they didn’t stop it and then to make it right. When it also becomes clear that things have gone way too far and can’t be corrected, Dems need to put as much distance between them and the bomb blast sight as possible.
Oh, NOW they’re playing hardball. What a relief. And so timely.
Who’s coordinating this epic stand- Pharma Bro Sen. Corey Booker?
They can try to, but cloture votes can be squelched via a simple majority.
sigh
eggzactly.
Schumer said Democrats will allow roll call votes Friday on Gen. John Kelly to be the secretary of Homeland Security and Gen. James Mattis to be the defense secretary.
Serious question: What power do the Democrats have to control what comes up for a vote?
I have always believed that an incoming President should get to choose his own Cabinet appointments unless they were completely unqualified. All of these people fall into this category. Minority President Trump in the words of Rudyard Kipling has “broke the square”.
All I can say is They better be and they better not stop playing hard ball - I want to see some beanballs going straight at McConnell’s head.
American voters have the right to know about Trump’s cabinet picks. Right now most of them have a serious and huuuuge ethics problems.
Meanwhile in other news…BREAKING from the foreign press, of course:
The House is set to give away federal lands under the BLM even if it means bringing in less revenue to the federal coffers. With one change in a line on rules regarding the value of those lands, they can do this from what I read.
This is simply outrageous!!!
That is the kind of thing that I almost can’t take - it makes me crazy.
They cannot give our land away. I would go to actual war over this - the real civil thing.
This is one of the most outrageous and egregious things they are thinking of doing -
This assigning of $0 value to public lands by the House issue is the least media covered monster of all the garbage that has been going on in the last couple weeks.
It occurs to me when the barbarians have finally breached the gates and are burning, looting, raping and killing everyone and everything in sight, it is not really a time when criticizing the purity of the hearts of those doing the fighting and the quality of the generalship is productive.
And, of course, those who support the Bundy scumbags don’t understand that not having government adminster PUBLIC lands doesn’t mean “the People” get to have it. It means that those public lands will be torn apart for the purposes of corporations who will destroy them and then abandon the sites when the land is unusable.
For those who don’t believe me, you might want to see the movie Gasland and look to the current state of Oklahoma.
Thats why everything is happening at once.
The media is ill equipped to handle 2 sides of a SINGLE issue.
Trump will saturate and get away with far too much.
“Coal company came, with the worlds largest shovel…”
Each of Trump’s cabinet has been picked for a specific core incompetency. Too bad that realization doesn’t occur to them all.
