I fear the same thing as you do - and it doesn’t help the party or its causes. In the midterms,
too many Dems ran against Republicans as "We aren’t Obama either " and we saw how that worked out.

I’ve stopped contributing to democratic causes because they fielded such inept, cowardly candidates.
I’ve always voted democratic but I will not stand for inept bumblers anymore.

This reminds me of 2010, when Congressional Democrats urged Obama before the midterms not to push for letting the Bush tax cuts for upper income expire.
They were afraid it would hurt their election chances. They ignored President Obama’s advice, and got “shellacked.”
They did it again this year, on immigration, with the same results.
How did I get stuck with a party of losers, one that continually goes against the greatest winner it has had in at least a generation?
