Discussion: Senate Confirms Barr As Attorney General

Well to the extent that Sessions was incompetent, I guess I would agree with you that Barr is worse than Sessions. And I have no argument that Barr will work assiduously to clean up the image of the Republican party as much as he can, and he may do a decent job on that. But I’m not sure he has the same capabilities today that he did back during the Iran-Contra hearings. There are too many cracks in this administration’s MO.

And, in my admittedly humble opinion, I don’t really think his aim is to save Trump to begin with.

In this similar vein, Barr may think that Trump is damaging the long term health of the Presidency and may see derailing Trump as an appropriate step.

I thought that Wihitaker had that covered.

They will feel be just as in home in Switzerland and the French Riviera. One of the reasons they like London is because if you want to launder truly large amounts of money, London is the place to do it.

However, Putin has made it very clear that his objective is to destroy or at very least weaken Western alliances, taking the US out NATO (#MAGA) and the UK out of the European Union (Brexit) are clear steps in that direction. And there is evidence that Putin also interfered in the Brexit vote.

Putin is going to do what he needs to do and if it disrupts the Oligarch’s children education, well, too bad. And they better suffer in silence.

Hey, that swamp gas doesn’t create itself.

I was in Antibes where a lot of Russian millionaires bought houses. The French hate them, the Saudis hate them. It’s something like the Beverly Hillbillies, incredible ostentatious shows of new wealth with zero taste. Junior crashing the Maserati with coke and girls in the car and expecting the police to apologize.

Democrats, who largely voted against Barr, said they were concerned about his non-committal . . . . he criticized Mueller’s investigation.

Concerned! The man is a fascist, just like the rest of the GOP, and likely a traitor as well. so the Dems are “concerned”. Pffft.

They should have had a revote over Brexit, just as the US should have had a re-vote over the 2016 election. Why accept results when you know the vote was rigged by a hostile nation, and that nation has shoved you into deep shit? Russians are laughing their asses off at us, and with good reason.

“Everything a Democratic President does is illegal!”

I wish I shared your optimism re a Mueller firing. After what we’ve seen from the current senate, how can we expect them to do right by the country?

I like the thought. I’m dubious, but I like it.

Upvote for “Concernedville”. Could be “Arrogant hypocriteville”, but that describes all repugs.

Why they don’t do a re-vote on Brexit is beyond me. The Brexit vote was non-binding to begin with, Parliament did not have to act, they just choose to. But two and a half years later when it’s clear that all the unicorn horns that were promised by the Brexiters (Many of which are not in government anymore, because they don’t want no part in solving the mess they created) are fantasy, and the downing of what the consequences of Brexit might be, somehow having a second vote is going to be un-democratic.

Because having to walk it back would be humiliating for the Tories.

Party over country is the Republican way

Just look at the number of ‘hopeful’ comments posted on this site!
The Democratic Party and large swaths of its membership is expert at playing patty-cake while mobsters and grifters burn their house down, steal their valuables, while promising to call for help.

The stunning lack of historical context or willful denial of just what this country is dealing with…is the most disheartening thing to see.

I’m not actually optimistic in most regards. We certainly can’t count on GOP senators to do anything outside of express concern. But we do have a House that can bring all kinds of new heat to the situation. And I think they definitely would, probably to at least reasonable effect.

…and Barr’s son-in-law will be giving trump legal advice and his daughter will begin working at FinCEN.
Putting the kleptocratic pieces in place on the same day a “national emergency” is scheduled in advance.
