Discussion: Senate Bill Aims To Make School Lunches Taste Better

Discussion for article #244893

Some of these seem like good compromises. Better for a kid to eat a lot of partially whole grain foods then no 100% whole grain foods at all.

Christie seems like the last guy that should be giving out food advice though.

But it’s important to constantly evaluate these things. The partially hydrogenated oil disaster was prompted by a study that said fats were “the problem”, and that was wrong. You need fat in your diet. Instead we got not only the partially hydrogenated oils, but also tons of sugar were introduced…and these things were far worse than fats.

Another factor is that all people are different, and certain foods affect some children different than others.

The important thing is that the First Lady is fighting a good cause, so it should be done as wisely as possible.

School Nutrition Association, which represents school nutrition directors and companies that sell food to schools.

Uhm, what? I mean I realize I shouldn’t be surprised by this type of stuff anymore, but really the people doing the buying and the people doing the selling being represented by the same lobbying group? I guess the school nutrition directors are at least being honest about being in bed with the industry as opposed to only being concerned about what is best for the kids.
