Discussion: Sen. John McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer

Goddammit. I hate hearing that. For all the scathing things I’ve said about him over the years, many of them right here on this site, I nonetheless find myself saddened and unexpectedly moved.

The Wikipedia entry for Glioblastoma is informative:

Despite maximum treatment, the cancer usually recurs. The most common length of survival following diagnosis is 12 to 15 months with less than 3% to 5% of people surviving longer than five years…

…the single most prevalent symptom is a progressive memory, personality, or neurological deficit due to temporal and frontal lobe involvement. The kind of symptoms produced depends more on the location of the tumor…

This looks like one of the scarier cancers.

Poor guy.

The first thing that popped into my head (NPI) was “one too many jabs at Putin and his poisoners.”

Really hoping I didn’t say anything snarky when he had that very obvious short circuit in a hearing a couple of weeks ago. If so, I regret it.

that sucks. I bet that piece of shit who said “amen” to the “won’t McCain die already” feels like the shit she is. Or probably not, actually.

Lost a sister to brain cancer, Not fun. Best wishes to the Senator.

What I want to know is how my just-outside-the-beltway doctor knew this as he specifically mentioned McCain and cancer recurrence when we were speaking Monday morning about effects of stress on health. (cuing Twilight Zone music). But McCain had cancer previously, yes? jaw?

  1. Fuck Cancer. I don’t wish it on anyone. 2. When is it polite to speculate on the future of this Senate seat?

Never thought I’d type this, but McCain will be missed.
In today’s psychotic, malevolent GOP McCain seems at least sane. He never came across to me as truly heartless either.

Only Jimmy Carter survives glioblastoma. Almost makes me believe in God.

I lost an aunt to brain cancer … it is brutal stuff. I wish Senator McCain and his family strength.

There were a few moments during his campaign where he dissed President Obama (not to mention the introduction of Plain to the world), but he gave a gracious and sincere concession speech (with Plain chomping at the bit to give one herself). I also didn’t like McCain’s remarks to and about Cindy McCain on a couple of occasions, but he supported trumpp and shouldn’t have. Don’t expect PP to acknowledge McCain either. Murders of Americans, and a senator’s illness are someone else’s concerns, not this thing in the WH.

This is sad news. Best wishes, Senator McCain.

The only thing worse than brain cancer is knowing PotUS will make some callous, unfunny remark about it.

Devastating news for McCain and his family. Perhaps he will beat the odds -like Jimmy Carter. I wish him well.

His institutional memory and knowledge of D.C. will be greatly missed.

My best wishes and hopes for the Senator, for what little they’re worth.

Ted Kennedy died of this. I’m deeply saddened. Senator McCain had melanoma before, but this is totally unrelated. The good news is the older you are, the slower even aggressive cancers move. May Senator McCain live to see the piece of filth in the White House deposed.

I know I was one of those people and I feel bad about that now that we know there was an organic reason for his meandering thoughts.

I wish him well and hope he’s able to return to the senate. Perhaps he’ll have a come to Jesus moment and realize that he doesn’t want to join his party in screwing over the majority of Americans.

Having been one of the Senator’s constituents for almost his entire career, I’m not a fan of the man, but I do have sympathy as his life heads towards sunset. I hope he can enjoy peace and family for the remaining time he has. Glioblastomas are pretty horrible.

Not a fan of his policies, but wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Hope the future holds the minimum amount of pain for him and his family.
