Discussion: Sen. Coons: GOP Will 'Almost Certainly' Go Nuclear If Dems Filibuster Gorsuch

Chrid, it’s still an open question whether the Senate GOP can count on 51 votes to go nuclear. The Dems are absolutely right to insist on a delay for Gorsuch as long as Trump’s ties to a hostile foreign power are a thing

I just don’t get this attitude. What the f*** good is a power that really exists in name only? What, they want to retain the filibuster so the next time there’s a really awful nominee they can use it then – and trigger the nuclear option at that time instead?

Schumer regretted eliminated the filibuster on “such important positions [because] there should be some degree of bipartisanship,”
This is muddled thinking. During their control of the House and Senate, the GOP was the 1st party in many decades to monolithically oppose everything advanced by the Dems. Nominations were held up for years. It was absolutely necessary to discard the filibuster to overcome this intransigent, partisan obstruction.

The GOP keeps restarting their timeline at the point of Dems’ reaction, blithely ignoring their antecedent, precipitating actions.
