Discussion: See The New Yorker Cover That Makes A Powerful Statement About Ferguson

Discussion for article #230607

They could have included a lot of other City skylines. Legal issues relating to race are not new anywhere and the City of St. Louis was where the Dred Scott case was tried.

That is a really good cover

Its OK. I thought the one using the Redskins logo in the last cover with the Native Americans attending a Pilgrim Turkeyday celebration and football game was much better.

The best one is the Bert and Ernie snuggling in front of the TV

It’s a good cover, but “powerful” and “devastating” as reported in the tweet and headline?

Another stop on the hyperbolic blog-n-twit Internet.

Yeah, that pretty well sums it up.

For a modern media that only seems able to cast finger puppet shadows while hiding their own disgraceful records…good one!

It is pretty tame. Not meant to get anyone too riled up. Just kind of plays it safe imo, not that there’s anything wrong with that… Imagine a broken heart, with one side black and one side white…Same sorta thing. Eh.

The court house where Scott’s original case was tried is the domed building under the arch.

The artist’s note on the drawing (see the New Yorker’s web site) recounts that he lived in St. Louis for years. He says he hopes to see the people of the city and region come together to bridge the gap in the arch.

All one has to do is look at the headlines here and elsewhere which shows Republican lawmakers now lowering themselves to pander to their racist white male base with all the vitriol and venom you would expect. Oh, and by the way, they just wanted to add, Thanks Obama!

The cover is OK, but how are the cartoons?
