Hey, Richard Cohen, Andrea Mitchell, Peter Baker, Jeff Zeleny, Kyle Cheney, Mags Haberman, Margaret Talev, and all the rest of you DC journalistic phonies! How come you are not expressing your righteous indignation at the top of your lungs about THIS SHIT?!!!
These violent delights have violent ends.
Oh yes, I agree regarding invasive and insects so perhaps that is the case. I just don’t believe that is the case here since Macron’s speech to congress was not full of praise for trump and trump is a petulant child.
Yes, I agree completely just don’t think that is the case here. Could very well be though.
Ohhhh my, this is so not good…
Is there a way, short of a futile attempt at an effective mass protest, to get this moved to a very high-profile position in the broader media? This is one of those “subtle and dangerous changes” we have to be most vigilant about.
Like the rules regarding “enhanced interrogation techniques” that were quietly slipped into various agency policies during Cheney’s, er, Dubya’s presidency… sometimes all it takes is a memo.
Press freedom and government transparency are the bedrock of a functioning democracy. This cannot be left to stand!
I’m willing to bet they believe this will cause a (minor) press furor, and since it has been pre-blamed on Rosenstein, give them greater cause to have him removed. Remember, Trump ordered Rosenstein to produce a memo outlining Comey’s “misdeeds”. They used that memo (supposedly) to fire Comey, and then pointed the finger of blame at Rosenstein in response to the inevitable outrage.
Here comes round two…?
I think it’s important to keep this declaration in the manual specifically to curtail those DOJ officials who have not thought this principle worth acknowledging. So long as it’s written in there, they have no way to wriggle out of it if they act against said principle…
I’d like to see how the DOJ responds to questions from a non-fainting journalist regarding why they chose to withdraw freedom of the press wording.
They’ll have to get out the damned lies soot eyeliner and blood of future americans rouge for the press briefing.
Yesterday, suicide bombers targeted journalists in Kabul while our own press fell all over itself apologizing to SHS. Freedom of the press is on its last legs not only in Afghanistan but in the U.S.A. The press needs to get over itself.
The point, I think, is that the press weren’t using their rights when they were on the books. Wolfe reminded the public about it while DOJ just gives them cover for not doing their job. Wolfe exposes them, DOJ covers them. Hence Wolfe needs scorning, DOJ prising.
But yes, wow.
We have a long way ahead of us.
Get ready. Here come the Nazis.
They also removed the section on the Voting Rights Act and racial gerrymandering. They added a section on “religious liberty”, which is GOP-speak for the “right” of conservatives to violate the civil rights of others.
Sadly, I think they’re already here…
Is that a bit of cynical humor, or did that actually happen?? Now I have to go and dig into the changes. Are they publicly available somewhere? Where did you see that bit about the VRA and gerrymandering?
Before you know it they will be trying to remove November from the calendar year.
The excuse will be:
That month creates so much chaos for the nation.
In the linked BuzzFeed article that TPM’s article references.
Wolf is more spot on than the MSM yet realize. They would rather go after the sexy scandals than cover the very action that will muzzle them. The bar for news has been set in such a way that if a story needs understanding and explanation, and any sort of intelligence on the part of the audience, then it loses priority.
Thank you! I hadn’t clicked through to the buzzfeed article.
Just like you, I wonder why. Could it have something to do with press interactions with McCabe and Comey in the 2016 election cycle? Seems like McCabe firing traces to press interaction, and Comey’s public berating Hillary Clinton was also problematic. If both were motivated by a need to inform the public, perhaps the current DOJ wants that avenue closed.
I keep feeling like Trump is merely the puppet of a malignant force to distract whilst the other hand is picking our pockets or thrusting a dagger.
Such precious and special times we are in.
Of course, the WHCD isn’t supposed to be a roast, it’s supposed to be a love fest of comity and respect building.
Which isn’t really what they should be doing. Sanders gets up to the podium day in and day out and lies and lies. She mixes up her lies with threats and just general mild (usually) verbal abuse, with obfuscations and denials and both siderism lies. Then she adds a bunch of I don’t knows and strawman answers and answers to questions that were not asked, with some unasked for cheerleading statements that describes events that did not happen.
She displays total contempt, hubris, arrogance, and pride, and does it “nicely and professionally,” usually, because she was raised as a privileged, proper, Southern white girl.
She doesn’t deserve and has not earned respect, comity, and consideration. We shouldn’t be calling her names because of her physical appearance, but her body language is open to discussion.
Michelle Wolf is incredible and too effing bad if the snowflakes on the right and all the media elites didn’t like it. That doesn’t make Mika a fascist or whatever people were calling her, but the elitist’s in the media really need to stop attending these events.
What’s that old saying, afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted? That’s what the media should be doing, when they forget, they need to have it pointed out. And if they can’t take that illumination, then perhaps they need to examine their life’s choices.
