I’m loving Richard Sherman more and more. Not because I’m a Seahawks fan (oh yes, I’m a fan), but because he’s a smart, outspoken man. He makes stupid people feel uncomfortable, and there needs to be a lot more of that.

Exactly… its especially infuriating for certain pundits that they can’t just lump him into the “thug” category they’ve created for intelligent black men that challenge their prejudices.

Not that they didn’t try… the problem with athletes like him is every word they say is analyzed, and taking it out of context is much more difficult.

I suspect he’s right. I hope one day we got to the point where black superstars like Sherman have as much sway as the white-bread Bradys and Mannings of the world. Maybe then we’ll see the NFL move forward.

I would say the NFLs continuing committment to employing anyone who can make them money, regardless of their personal conduct; rape, battery, drugs, gun running, theft, racism, homophobia, etc. is far more telling than the name on one of their teams.

I am a huge fan of Richard Sherman. He is one of the smartest men playing sports and he doesn’t take shit from anyone. His story is an amazing one and I love that he speaks up and out.

If the University of Illinois (the Fighting Illini) were forced to drop Chief Illiniwek (which they did even though he was held in high esteem) because a group found the Chief to be racially insensitive, then the Cleveland Indians (Wahoo!) and the Washington Redskins need to go, too. Either that, or start a few teams with insensitive names for each race, creed, color and nationality-of-origin. I doubt that the world could finance that many teams.
