You’d think, right? But their base also supports Trump lock, stock, and barrel. The next time they realize they got conned may be the first.
Nope. You were correct in your first paragraph. Their base is too stupid to realize that the GOP has been playing them for more than 40 years.
You know, I’d never thought of it that way, but this makes perfect sense.
If it weren’t for all of the horrific and lasting damage for so many women that would result, it would almost be worth letting Roe v Wade disappear, just to break this Gooper fever, and get it back on the books half a generation later.
On the other hand, something unexpected may happen here too.
Two years ago, even a year ago, who would have expected the NRA to implode? We might actually be moving toward getting some decent gun legislation through…
Hey, a girl can hope.
Began long ago, as you know, but this decision is not a good example. Here, the Court is refusing to undermine a lower court’s decision to block an Alabama statute.
Unfortunately, I know some of these people. The die-hard march every year on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade people.
And they’re really not that stupid, they think the time is right.
Look at that poor woman charged with murder because she was shot in the belly by another woman. We’re definitely hitting the tipping point.
“base is going to turn on them.”
Narrator: their base never turned on them.
I may toss around the term ‘stupid’ a bit too much. They are True Believers though. I liken them to the True Believers that are anti-vaxers or climate change deniers. Facts are irrelevant when you are a True Believer™.
They’ve already run plenty of purges in the Party and achieved idealogical purity, if the current crop of zealots isn’t enough to pull it all off, they’ll dump them for even more extremist folk.
I certainly didn’t mean to imply that they’d leave the Republicans.
That’s a truly terrifying thought.
Look at that poor woman charged with murder because she was shot in the belly by another woman.
The framing of that story is that the pregnant woman was shot by another woman over a man. The pregnant woman supposedly instigated the fight, the other woman got a gun to protect herself.
The thought is that the pregnant woman should have considered that she was nothing more than a vessel for an all important fetus and should never have put the real victim in harm’s way.
I’ll bet there are a lot of women who think that’s a valid argument.
I have a strong desire to overturn Thomas’s parents’ previous decision not to abort him.
Ignorant, imbeciles, idiots… All acceptable, as is stupid. Religiofascists.
And yes, totally impervious to facts and anything nuanced, like about how to treat babies once they’re born, guaranteeing healthcare for moms, childcare, education…
The term is Post-Full-Term-Abortion.
Dems in the house could call the GOP’s bluff, and pass a bill to make abortion a State’s rights issue. Would hate to see it, but I’m sure Mitch wouldn’t bring it to a vote.
The other day one of the candidates said something about the congress taking up legislation to codify Roe, so when the Republican majority on the court really does overturn it, women in America won’t be denies the right to choose.
The rest of the candidates on the debate stage ran from that idea like scared rabbits. So did the moderators. Let’s face it, elected officials and the establishment press know that they can’t do anything about cultural war issues because the elected officials are afraid to take on tough issues and the media types love the culture wars because they help sell a lot of soap… Maybe we should all just start telling our congress critters to do their job. Maybe we should also realize that the media isn’t on the side of the angels.
Huh? Not following. Overturning Roe v. Wade would make it a State issue, thus all the recent State laws oulawing abortion that promptly get shelved by the Courts currently.
People thought I was being dramatic just a few months ago when I was talking about how we’d start policing pregnant women, ensuring they didn’t smoke, drink or do anything else that might cause the loss of the fetus.
Now with this case, we’re only a short step away from that becoming reality.
I need to correct this. Thinking back on it I am not sure one of the moderators didn’t ask the question and all of the Democrats on the stage ran from the idea of a legislative fix as fast as they possibly could.
Except when it’s them or their “erring” daughters whose lives shouldn’t be ruined by a minor inconvenience.
Now with this case, we’re only a short step away from that becoming reality.
It’s interesting. Liberals often make reference to the possibilities of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and with good reason. But, regarding this case, the connection to that seminal story isn’t one of lack of abortion; it’s the life of the fetus completely surpassing that of the woman who is seen as nothing more than a host. Just a vessel that allowed itself to become damaged.
Denied abortions are one issue; actual fetal person-hood is another and one follows the other directly. I didn’t realize it at the time because it just seemed too absurd.
I also didn’t realize at the time that NOTHING is too absurd anymore.
ETA:
The shooter wasn’t at fault.
The availability to a gun wasn’t at fault.
The vessel/baby incubator was at fault.
Vessel? You must mean Baby Incubator.
