A small battle won for intelligence…

In a sea of willful malignorance.

Good,he was hired to teach science not promote his brand of faux religion. And why would a guy who does not believe in Science teach Science.

Just to be clear, this is the guy that thought it was a good idea to burn crosses on students’ arms.

It would seem to me that first amendment rights to free speech should not extend into the public school classroom. Why does he not teach at a religious school, where his point of view is welcome or even encouraged. He knew better, (maybe) and was trying to push his 'ligeousness into the public school.

SEE??? Conservative Christians ARE persecuted here in the US… how far we’ve strayed from the Founding Fathers’ vision of a nation founded on Christian values…

That’s easy. Pay is lower, there are no pensions, there are no union protections. This guy wanted the freedom to promote religion, but did not understand that it is not appropriate. He is now free to make less money, have no union protection, and have no pension.

The snark is strong in this one.

Just to be clear, it’s now an infringement on someone’s first amendment rights to make them sign a piece of paper saying they want someone else to pay for part of their employees’ health care, but not an infringement to fire someone for following their religion’s injunction to proselytize.

(And no, I don’t think this case should have been taken up and reversed.)

Just another ego-drunk triumphalist nutjob. Good riddance.

I think it would be perfectly reasonable to have a science teacher providing a religious perspective on the development of the scientific process.

“OK kids, here’s where [fill in with name of religion/sect/cult] killed [fill in with name of researcher/scientist] who’s teaching of [fill in with name of groundbreaking theory/research] was seen as a threat to the power of [fill in with name of religion/sect/cult leader] as it was taught in the [fill in with name of religious book/treastise].”

I was thinking you were hinting the OTHER case should be reversed.

Good point. I guess it was touch and go on whether the Supremes cared to further expand “religious freedom” to include this nonsense. The usual suspects very likely were anxious to take this on.

What makes him think this is at all acceptable in a public school? What an asshole. He deserved the firing.

What makes him think it’s acceptable in a public school is that he believes, to his core, that these things are literally true.

He’s wrong, and demonstrably so, but there’s your answer.

I live nearby, and this clown has been in the local papers for YEARS now. Maybe this will FINALLY shut him up.

For fundamentalist free speech means they have the right to cram their religion down your throat, anytime, anywhere.
